THE SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST June 3, 2018 LOCUST VALLEY FIRST CHURCH OF GOD ESTABLISHED 1852 In Christ s love, we welcome you to worship in this place today. If you are visiting us for the first time, we extend a special welcome and encourage you to ask any questions you might have. This bulletin contains the order of worship for today s service. Hymns can be found in the brown book in your pew (unless otherwise noted). Restrooms are located at the back of the church near the parking lot.

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP The organ prelude accompanies the lighting of the altar candles and the pealing of the church bell, calling all to gather in worship. Call to Worship: (Spoken Responsively) Psalm 139: 1-5, 12-17 O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed. How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! The Prayer of the Day: (Prayed in Unison) Almighty God, you alone can bring order to our unruly wills and affections. Give us grace to love what you command and desire what you promise, that in all the changes and chances of this uncertain world, our hearts may be surely fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our

Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. *Hymn of Praise: Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise [33] Prayers of the People: The congregation is invited to offer their praises/concerns. We begin with the confession, prayed in unison: Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being, whose face is hidden from us by our sins, and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts: Cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires, that with reverent and humble hearts we may draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and strength; through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen. Announcements: Offertory/*Sung Response: The Doxology [815] WE HEAR THE WORD Hymn of the Day: Great is Thy Faithfulness [139] Sermon: Lamentations Pastoral Prayer: WE GO FORTH TO LOVE AND SERVE *Sending Hymn: Leaning on the Everlasting Arms [575] *The Benediction: *Please stand as you are able.
