Dr. Larry W. Leonard District Superintendent lwleonard@midsoutnaz.org August 2014 THE NEW MIDSOUTH DISTRICT: ALL ABOUT THE NEW JERUSALEM Isaia 43:19 "See, I am doing a new ting! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in te wilderness and streams in te wasteland." Mattew Henry says about tis passage: "Te deliverance from Babylon is foretold, but tere is reference to greater events. Te redemption of sinners by Crist, te conversion of te Gentiles, and te recall of te Jews are described. All tat is to be done to rescue te sinners, and to bring te believer to glory, is little, compared to tat wonderful work of love, te redemption of man." Te "new" ting God is doing in te MidSout District as very little to do wit increasing numbers of curces, lowering budgets, and creating a family friendly environment. Tis "new" ting is an escalation of te opportunity to reac te lost to Crist, to make disciples, and teac tem to obey His teacing. Welcome to te MidSout District Curc of te Nazarene! Rev. Toni Cildress NYI Co-President tonicildress7@gmail.com Rev. Jason Underwood NYI Co-President pastorjasonunderwood@gmail.com Our students all around te MidSout district are getting on buses, flooding te malls for back to scool sopping, and tweeting teir scedules to eac oter to see wo tey will be in class wit. In yout ministry tis is te beginning of a new year for us as well. We ave said goodbye to seniors tat we ave spent countless ours wit, and we are welcoming a new group of students. We are truly excited about ministry wit you in te year aead. Togeter we ave te cance to sape students to make a life long commitment to Crist. In all we do tis year our prayer is tat we lean on Jon 3:30 He must become greater; I must become less. Endless It feels like years ago tat students from TN crossed te creek for 2 weeks of camp togeter at CGC. Tis year we saw over 800 students attend camp! Our ope is tat we did not leave wat we learned tere but we are seeking new ways to serve te kingdom in our communities. Students from Mississippi traveled to Sell Knob, Missouri, on July 18 to spend a week at Camp Table Rock. As usual, te teens enjoyed te muc anticipated wake boarding, cliff jumping, swimming, and basketball/volleyball tournaments. But wat tey learned spiritually was by far te very best part of camp! Eac one was taugt ow to evangelize teir own little corner of te world by saring teir own personal testimony of God s love, forgiveness, and ope. We witnessed many students crying out to God in repentance and for a life tat is oly and pleasing to Him. Several received salvation. Needless to say, camp was awesome!! As you are aware, te Mississippi district and te Tennessee district voted to merge and become te MidSout district. Immediately following District Assembly, te NYI councils from bot districts eld a summit to discuss te future plans for te MidSout NYI. Bot councils are excited about te opportunities tat merging our districts will bring. Tis year te MidSout NYI will operate wit co-councils fully representating bot MS and TN. We collectively decided our goal would be to maintain a ministry tat is focused on te students of te MidSout as well as offering support to te local yout ministry. In te coming days tere will be many adjustments made as we seek to accomplis our goals. We are currently working on updating a new web site as well as new social media outlets to reflect te cange to MidSout. NYI: Nazarene Yout International NYC July 7-11, 2015 No, we re not talking about New York City! NYC is a yout conference tat appens every four years for ig scool students. It is a once in a lifetime event tat as seen countless students make a commitment for teir role in te future of te curc and today. Te first payment for tis trip will be in November! Tere is no time to waste in making plans and encouraging your students to attend. For more information contact Matt Taylor, NYC coordinator, at mtaylor@nfcn.org.
