A general requirement is that a child preparing for a sacrament has been actively and regularly attending religious education prior to beginning the sacramental preparation program. Baptismal certificates and other sacramental records are required for the child or youth preparing for a sacrament and for his or her sponsor. Sacramental preparation programs include special study, prayerful preparation, regular attendance at classes, participation of parents in designated programs, certification of readiness for the sacrament, and regular participation in the liturgical life of the parish. The reception of sacraments is a right for baptized Catholics, a right that carries with it the responsibility for conscientious and reverent preparation. The expectation of Roman Catholic Church is that upon entering into a Sacramental program, the youth would have attended a Religious Education program for at least one full year prior. Once entered into a Sacramental program, it is the expectation that the youth will attend classes and retreats faithfully. If you know your child is going to be absent on a scheduled class day, please notify the teacher, DRE or Dir of Faith Formation. Our Prayer Today, Our Reality Tomorrow Almighty and ever-loving God we thank You for the many blessings You have given to us all in our parishes of St. Jude and St. Anne throughout these many years. Bless us today as we accept the challenges we face to build one united parish community. We ask you to bless all the families in our parishes. We ask that our love for you and for each other continue to grow and mature as we work to accomplish the task of building our future together. Teach us to be generous in giving so that our unified church will be a place of honor that will give glory to you forever. We ask that you unite us and lead us all to the glory of eternal happiness in heaven. Dear God may our prayer today be a reality tomorrow through the power of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of Jesus and with the blessings of our Mother Mary. AMEN WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED Question: What are we celebrating on the feast of the Assumption of Mary? Answer: The Assumption, along with the Immaculate Conception, are two Marian dogmas that have been infallibly defined by the Church. The Assumption proclaims the reality that Mary was taken up body and soul into heaven. This was God's special gift to her in response to her total giving of self to God's plan and will. The Church believes that Mary was immaculately conceived, that is, conceived without original sin. This led the Church to believe that she did not suffer one of the key consequences of original sin, death, and corruption. The Orthodox Church celebrates the Dormition of Mary, the belief that Mary did not die but rather fell asleep and was thus assumed into heaven. What significance does this feast have for our lives as Christians today? This feast is above all an assurance and hope of our continued life with God. Modeling ourselves on Jesus and living the Christian life molded by Jesus' values is certainly the sure path to God. As a result, God will not leave us orphaned or alone to suffer the emptiness of death. Rather, we believe that death is merely a transformation of our present state into an even more glorious and eternal relationship with God. This is the hope and assurance that Mary's assumption celebrates. It is a celebration of our assumption as well. She is one of us, providing a model of what God has in store for all who love and give of themselves to God. August 12, 2018 19th in Ordinary Time Have you ever approached a hushed group and were certain they were talking about you? It's an uncomfortable feeling to catch people murmuring about what you did, said, or didn't do. It breeds division and exclusion. In today's Gospel, Jesus invites us to just the opposite. The reading opens with the crowds "murmuring" their doubts about Jesus after he has proclaimed himself the Bread of Life. "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? how can he say 'I have come down from heaven'?" In his response, Jesus brings up the Israelites and the manna God brought them in the desert. If you turn back to the story in Exodus, you'll see another similar word: murmuring. As the going got tough, the Israelites doubted Moses and God's plan to protect and care for them as a chosen people. Here, Jesus proposes a difficult theological concept. Jesus himself is "the living bread" and "flesh for the life of the world." This is not an exclusive concept. "Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me." Why? Because "the Father who sent me draw[s] him." The next time you're at Mass, take a few moments to watch the communion line. Young and old, families and singles, diverse races and cultures and stories? we are all drawn to the Eucharistic table. Catholic doctrine may require faith, but it is a faith possible for anyone who seeks truth. Christianity does not hide behind locked doors in an exclusive clubhouse, whispering behind the backs of nonbelievers. Jesus compels us to share the love of God the Father for his children, that we one day be joined with Him and "live forever." 12 de agosto de 2018 19º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Los judíos murmuraban porque Jesús había dicho: "Yo soy el pan que ha bajado del cielo". LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Life can be confusing, and the demands and challenges of everyday life can easily cloud our vision. We can become tired. Because of all of the energy needed to manage our day-to-day routines, our spiritual lives can get neglected. Anger, apathy, bitterness, and competition readily distort our relationships with one another and with God. We are asked to imitate God and to put love, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and gentleness over all things. We need to develop a strong life of prayer in order to bring balance to our lives and to realize who we really are.
