Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Prv 9:1-6; Ps 34:2-3, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15; Eph 5:15-20; Jn 6:51-58 [Wisdom] has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city: Let whoever is simple turn in here; To the one who lacks understanding, she says, Come, eat of my food Proverbs 9:3-5 Several years ago, in working with a therapist, I offhandedly mentioned a choice my maternal grandmother had made decades before. The therapist stopped me and asked why she had done that. I didn t know, and what did it matter? You have to ask. It matters, she said. You have to ask your mother. Which, I didn t want to do, but I did anyway. As it turned out, the answer to the mystery would provide clarity and wisdom in my own life and later, even in that of my daughter. There are many ways to seek wisdom. We listen, we seek, we observe, and sometimes, we have to find courage and just ask.
