Focus: Singapore APRIL 2014 City Impact Global Influence

Cru Singapore Cru Staff praying together In 1972, our Singapore ministry was launched with the help of U.S. staff members Bailey and Elizabeth Marks, and Kent and Diane Hutcheson. The year 2012 was a milestone as we celebrated our 40 th anniversary! Also, 2013 marked a new beginning as we officially embraced a new name and a new identity, Cru Singapore. While our commitment to help fulfil the Great Commission remains unchanged, the new identity is part of our effort to better reach previously uncharted territory. With our continual vision of City Impact, Global Influence, the new name has spurred us on to reach boldly, build deeply and send urgently so that we can be Glossary LDHR LLM SLM Leadership Development/Human Resources Leader-led Movements Student-led Movements Tuesday, 1 April SLM: Polytechnics & Universities Wednesday, 2 April SLM: Polytechnics & Universities Pray for a strong student-led movement to proclaim the gospel boldly and glorify God throughout the Singapore campuses. Athletes in Action Singapore After his discipleship group session, Cru staff member Ivin Vikesh would hang out with his disciples playing football. Sports had played an integral part of his growing-up years, but it had never occurred to him how to use it as a ministry. Later Ivin had an opportunity to attend International Sports Leadership Training conducted by the Sports Coalition Singapore (SCS). The objective of SCS is a partnership movement that brings together Christians who have been using sports and games as a vehicle for ministry. Through this he realized that (1) sports can be used as a platform to transform lives, and (2) sports is a universal language. This ignited in him the possibility of starting AIA Singapore. As Ivin prayed the Lord began to unfold His plan. God opened the door for him to be invited by a national coach to be his assistant on a national team. As AIA Singapore was launched, God continued to create strategic opportunities for his team to connect with influential Christian athletes on various school and national teams. Reach Out to Teammates Many were willing to be discipled and become witnesses for Christ wherever God placed them. These Christian athletes caught the vision for sports ministry and have been gathering like-minded Christians on their sport teams to pray and reach out to their teammates. AIA Singapore s vision is to see one multiplying Christian athlete on every team, in every sport, in Singapore and other nations. The movement also benefitted from Ivin s connection with AIA International. Together with them in 2013, they organized the Ultimate Training Camp (UTC), which drew 41 participants, some of whom were pre-believers. Each one took part simply because a disciple of AIA Singapore invited them to. Praise God that one athlete came to faith in Christ through this camp! This December they are trusting God for 80 athletes to sign up for UTC. They are also trusting God to give every polytechnic athlete an opportunity to receive Christ by this September. Will you pray for God to keep this pioneering movement multiplying in faith and influence? Wednesday, 9 April LLM: Women s Ministry - TSW Thursday, 10 April LLM: Women s Ministry - Homemakers Praise God for the impact of The Significant Woman course on many women as they discovered their significance in God s eyes. May God continue to use the Homemakers Ministry to impact many families through the influence of godly mothers and wives. 4

Ladies Taking Bold Steps to Live Life Pauline Lau, one of Cru Singapore s veteran staff members, attended a Coordinators Conference organized by The Significant Woman (TSW) ministry in the U.S. She personally gained much from the conference and felt that this is what many Christian women are also seeking to be a significant influence where God has placed them. significantly In just two years, 32 groups have completed the TSW 10-week syllabus. What was significant was that 20 of them were from seven different churches. These churches conducted the seminar on their church premises and continue to be responsible to shepherd these groups. The ladies came from diverse backgrounds - working professionals, single, married, homemakers and from all age groups, from their 20 s to 70 s. Yet all came with the motive of wanting to live significantly for the Lord using the PEARL principles taught in the syllabus. According to government statistics published in 2010, about 18% of the population profess to be Christian, and of these more than 50% are female worshippers. Our desire is to connect with as many of them as possible to equip and enable them to be significant women for God. Pray for the continued expansion for the women s ministry in Singapore. Friday, 11 April LLM: Healthcare Ministry May the Healthcare Ministry reach the medical students and professionals to touch people both locally and beyond. Saturday, 12 April LLM: Creative Ministry Pray for increased spiritual influence and presence in the creative domain and like-minded creatives to come alongside us. 5

Sunday, 13 April LLM: Cru Alumni May the newly-launched Cru Alumni help reignite the alumnus passion for God and commitment to help fulfill the Great Commission! Monday, 14 April Digital Strategies: E-mentoring May God raise up more e-mentors to help connect many seekers to God via digital platforms with a personal touch. Tuesday, 15 April Media Ministry (MM) Ask for God to continue using MM in winning souls and saving minds through Christ-centred resources. Wednesday, 16 April LDHR: Recruitment Pray for wisdom as the LDHR team works with various strategies to recruit more staff workers for the local and global harvest. Thursday, 17 April LDHR: SOLEAD (New Staff Training) Trust God to use School of Leadership and Development to help equip trainees for a lifetime of fruitfulness in the Great Commission. Friday, 18 April LDHR: Staff Development May Cru Singapore staff be God-attentive, God-dependent, God-responsive and God-expectant as He develops resilience against challenges. Saturday, 19 April Ops Hub: One Building Thank God for providing the new office building to house all the ministries by June 2014. Pray for provision of all funds needed. Sunday, 20 April Ops Hub: Operations May God s strength and wisdom be upon those serving by providing leadership in the new office set-up. Monday, 21 April Ops Hub: Finance Thank God for the faithful, untiring support that the Finance team has been providing to ensure smooth financial processes. Tuesday, 22 April Ops Hub: Missions Trust God for strategic partnerships with nations, and perseverance to raise up more long and short-term labourers for the global harvest. 6

Prayer Classroom Learning and Extreme Dependence Victor Pandian Victor Pandian has served for more than 20 years in Cru Singapore. Currently he is part of the Healthcare Ministry, which focuses on reaching medical students and professionals. Victor s first eight years as a staff member were spent in a closed country. Subsequently, he has conducted prayer training in Mongolia, Laos and Cambodia. God has provided many astounding encounters around his training sessions, serving as a field practicum for those who attended. In Mongolia, he remembers finishing up three nights of training and then travelling to another village. The temperature was a bitter -39.8 degrees C! It was so cold that the petrol froze, and the car could not move. Fearing the worst, the traveling team was in despair and some even cried. With astute calmness, Victor encouraged them to pray and surrender the situation to God. For the next 15 minutes, the team prayed fervently. Then one of guys tried to start the engine, and amazingly, it worked. Hence, they were able to continue their journey. And each of them learned--out in the cold--how prayer really works! All glory to God! Readers can contact the Cru Singapore Movement at www.cru.org.sg Wednesday, 23 April Trust God for additional IT staff members to help various ministries increase their capacity through the use of systems and technology. Ops Hub: IT Thursday, 24 April Cru Singapore Leaders Pray for Cru Singapore leaders to walk closely with the Lord and to shepherd the movement with love and courage. Friday, 25 April Cru Singapore Staff Pray for staff members to grow in our love for God and one another, so as to reflect His glory by being One. Saturday, 26 April Cru Singapore s Mission May Cru Singapore be committed to our mission of raising communities of multiplying disciples by winning, building and sending. Sunday, 27 April Missional Objectives: Gospel Experiences Monday, 28 April Missional Objectives: Changed Lives Pray for the Holy Spirit to open people s hearts to listen, understand and experience the gospel truth. Join us in trusting God to transform many people through their vital personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 7

Tuesday, 29 April Missional Objectives: Mobilizing Leaders May God use Cru Singapore to mobilize kingdom leaders to be engaged in spiritual multiplication and for societal impact. Wednesday, 30 April Missional Objectives: Collaboration Pray for strategic opportunities to partner and resource the body of Christ for greater synergy in helping to fulfil the Great Commission. Called to a movement. Called to pray. Personal needs... Requests to share... Team needs... Answers to share... God works through the prayers of His people to ignite spiritual movements. As Spiritfilled disciples pray without ceasing, the Lord increases faith, causes growth and brings about fruitfulness to glorify Himself (John 15:1-17). Stories are the building blocks of all movements. The early church multiplied as the stories about Jesus spread everywhere. It continues to grow alongside stories of what He is doing now. igniting movements The Global Prayer team invites you to: Share stories of God answering prayer.
