EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 5, 2018 The Lord provides heavenly food for the Israelites to eat (1, Ps). Jesus proclaims himself to be the very bread of life (3). We lay aside our way of life to be created anew in his image (2). Liturgical Tidbits GOD S WORK We are so busy! Most of us have more than one job to do, and we never seem to have enough time. We are workers, volunteers, parents, friends, and most of us are more than one thing at a time. But which of these is the work of God? We seldom view our ordinary work as being the work of God. We may think that we have to be ministers or priests, missionaries or charity workers, engaged full-time in works formally identified as being God s work. But everything we do with a faithful heart and with love for others is God s work. We each have our own role to fill in the world, and many gifts are necessary. We cannot always see the direct connection of our daily work to the plan of God. But we trust and we believe that God leads us to do what is needed, where it is needed. What is God s work? This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent (John 6:29). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. ATTENTION ALL MINISTERS The Diocese of San Jose mandates that all Ministers, whether paid or volunteer, liturgical or pastoral, complete two tasks: Get Fingerprinted Take a one-hour online course entitled Protecting God s Children. (Fingerprinting need only be done once; the online course must be retaken every 3 years) All Ministers who have contact with children or vulnerable adults must have this done and it must be completed PRIOR to serving in Ministry. There will be an on-site fingerprinting opportunity on Saturday, September 8 from 4-6 pm at Resurrection School. No appointment needed, simply come with a picture ID and $20 cash or check (refundable by submitting receipt to parish office). To take the online course go to Virtusonline.org and follow the prompts. Once completed, simply submit your certificate to the parish office. For questions or further information please contact Amy Stacke at 408-245-5554 or via email at astacke@resparish.org PANCAKE BREAKFAST - SAVE THE DATE Join your fellow parishioners for a free parish pancake breakfast on Sunday, August 19, 2018 after the 7 am, 8:30 am and 10 am Masses in the Farana center hall.
