Please contact the head usher if you are in need of child care. Gathering Prelude The light of Christ is brought in to the sanctuary Welcome & Announcements Todd Morriss, Liturgist (All are invited to sign in the Friendship Register) Let us prepare our hearts and minds to worship God Chimes Call to Worship: One: Praise him, all creation, Sing a new song to the Lord. Sing to the Lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name. Proclaim his salvation day by day, tell his glory among the nations. All: Ascribe to the Lord, families of the people, ascribe to the Lord beauty and power, ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Amen. *Opening Hymn 32 I Sing the Mighty Power of God Call to Confession and Prayer One: Holy One, sometimes we are like Nebuchadnezzar, wanting to be in charge, desperately and destructively trying to control everyone around us. All: God of freedom, forgive and transform us. One: Sometimes we are like the Chaldeans, jealous of those who seem more successful, malicious toward people who do not do things the proper way. All: God of grace, forgive and transform us. We are not sure if we could, if we would, be like Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego; trusting you despite all odds. Devoted to you even in the face of death. God of salvation, transform our fear into faithfulness. Amen. Declaration of Forgiveness One: You servants of the most high God, do not be afraid. For with God is great mercy to forgive and there is great power to transform. So may the peace of Christ dwell within you. Friends, hear now the Good News. 2

All: God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of Christ Jesus, in whom we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins, Amen. The Peace One: May the Peace of Christ be with you all. All: And also with you. Let us pass the Peace to one another. *Congregational Response 2011 We Sing of Your Glory 3

The Word Prayer for Illumination One: Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. All: By the Holy Spirit transform us into the loving people known as Christians by your Word. Make us into the image of Christ, who is Jesus. Amen. Scripture Reading (NIV): Isaiah 25:6-9, Acts 8:27-35 One: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Special Music Todd Morriss Sermon Obedience Equals Great Things Rev. Charley Shurtz *Hymn 722 Lord, Speak to Me That I May Speak *Statement of Faith (in unison) Apostles Creed (Traditional) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. AMEN. Prayers of the People Silent Prayer Time The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 4

*Closing Hymn 375 *Charge and Benediction *Congregational Response Responding with Thanks Call for Offering One: Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Remembering the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. All: Amen. Offertory *Doxology 592 Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow *Prayer of Dedication All: Help us to remember that abundance comes from You, our God. Your Word says that when we help those who hurt, we are lending to You and You will repay our generosity. So please remind us to be generous. Holy Spirit, touch the hearts of our Church Family to give to all those to have need. Amen. Sending Shall We Gather at the River Rev. Charley Shurtz On Eagle s Wings Postlude As we leave worship, we are called to carry with us the light of Christ and share it with the world. We warmly welcome visitors and invite you to consider membership in our community of faith if you do not have a church home.
