From Our Pastor... Three important dates to mark on your calendar: 1. Pentecost Picnic - Sunday, May 24; this is a big, fun parish event of great ethnic food, entertainment, and celebration of the Spirit's Gifts in our parishioners. 2. Sr. Carolyn's Farewell - Two ways to celebrate: Saturday, May 30, after Mass, appetizers and refreshments; Sunday, May 31, reception after both Masses. 3. John and Peg Harter Farewell - Weekend of June 13-14; John was the leader of our new church building project and has been our facility manager for the past seven years. He retires in July. Last weekend Sr. Carolyn announced her resignation as she begins a new ministry with her Religious Order in July. Below is a summary of her announcement for those who missed it. Easter Peace, Fr. Jim Deiters Dear Parish Family, I gave a homily at the Lenten penance service on a passage from Isaiah in which God is assuring us that when our paths turn to the right or to the left, God will be there saying, "This is the way; walk in it. I have been listening carefully over the past several months, and find I am being guided now to a new path in my life's journey. In the fall I was asked to discern the possibility of serving my religious community through being a professed member of our Mercy Novitiate community in St Louis. I attended a discernment weekend in January; expressed my willingness to minister there; in early March the team affirmed my discernment and called me to live in that community. As I thought, prayed and discussed this with others, it became clear that the time demands of my position here at St Clare would not easily fit into the time demands of personal presence that the novitiate community requires. So I have discerned that it is time to move on from ministry here at St Clare. My last day of ministry at St. Clare will be May 31. I want to assure you that this decision is the result of following what I deeply believe is the Spirit's prompting. I feel a calm sense of peace and rightness about this decision, and that is indeed a great gift in itself. At the same time, though it is the right choice for me, it is not an easy one. I have been so richly blessed here at St. Clare by my ministry with and to you, and have grown in countless ways. I shall always be grateful for my time here and my relationships with you. I shall miss you all! I do not yet know what my other new ministry will be. I am trusting that I will continue to be led to whatever I need to be doing that will help in my ongoing growth and transformation into the person I am called to be. God is in charge. I will hold you all in prayer and affection, and ask that you will do the same for me. Whether our mother is young or old, with us or with our heavenly Father, do we remember that we have a second Mother? How well do you know Our Blessed Mother? What does the Catholic Church teach about her? Is she relevant today, and why are so many people drawing closer to her now? In this talk, Meet Your Mother: An Introduc on to Mary, Dr. Mark Miravalle covers all the major Church teachings about the Blessed Mother. This talk is not only great for the person who has li le or no background knowledge about Our Lady but also meant for someone looking to renew their exis ng knowledge and love for the woman who Jesus gave personally to every human being. Dr. Miravalle is a professor of Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville and has wri en and taught about Mary for over25 years. Following the main presenta on on this CD, Dr. Miravalle provides an inside look into the Marian devo on of Our Lady Undoer of Knots. This devo on has been a favorite of Pope Francis and has become more popular since he spoke about it during his first year as pon ff. Check out these reviews!! This is absolutely the best talk on the Catholic Church s beliefs about Mary that I have ever heard! Every cradle Catholic, every priest, every RCIA program should have this CD available to give to anyone wan ng to know more about the Blessed Mother.
