June Newsletter 2018 GRACE for TODAY A Word from Mike Hodgson SADNESS and JOY This last Saturday I set in a funeral service for 10-year-old Luke. He died of leukemia. He and his family attended our church. I didn t know them very well but I did know that Luke was suffering from this disease. I felt sad for the family and friends that had gathered to say good-by. But as the service went on I found out just how much Luke loved Jesus and how many lives he had touched. In 10 short years he literally touched hundreds of people. I was told that there was over 800 in attendance at his funeral. He had spent a lot of time and prayers for the other cancer patients that had become his priority. Even started a non-profit to continue on after he passed. I was very touched at all he had accomplished in such a short time. God used him mightily. I m 71 and have been a Christian for over 45 years. I know we are not supposed to compare ourselves to others but it did make me stop and think. What have I done with those 45 years? How many lives have I touched through my walk with Jesus? As I go into my final years how will I be the hands and feet of Jesus? Of course, Emmaus is the vehicle that the Lord has led me to. I am so thankful that I have become involved with this group of people. You have given so many a chance to renew their walk in Christ and revived the spirit in them (including me). What a great opportunity we have, to be the hands and feet of Jesus through Emmaus. I hope you never lose the joy and excitement of this community and always take it back to your home church and share it. Be blessed and be a blessing. de Colores Mike Hodgson, Community Lay Director What s Inside Men s Walk #84 Picture Women s Walk #85 Picture Walk #86 Men s Team Work Day @ Gilmont Treasurer s Report Mules & Carts Approved Vendors G.R.A.C.E. AGAPE ITEMS for EACH WALK PREFERRED: 72 of each item stored in Ziplock Bags & the number "72" written with permanent marker on each bag. (This gives the Outside Servant Team more options for distribution.) OPTIONAL: Add your REUNION GROUP NAME ON EACH ITEM (not church name). (The emphasis becomes the Reunion Group.) ALSO OPTIONAL: Should you "need" to provide 36 Agape items instead of 72, please label ziplock bags appropriately. Work Day at Camp Gilmont We spent Saturday, May 19, at Camp Gilmont. We arrived at 8:00 a.m. and worked until 11:30 a.m.. We cleaned cabins, cut away brush, painted and blazed trails. There is nothing better than sweat equity!. The leaders of Camp Gilmont were very grateful for the efforts we made in helping them get ready for the summer campers who will soon be arriving. The best part of the day was the comradery, worship and fellowship with our fellow Emmaus 4th Dayers. Don t miss out, the next opportunity will be coming soon!

From the Treasurer Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you seems so inadequate, but it is sincerely meant! At the five Gatherings so far in 2018 (January through May), those who attended gave generously, as offerings averaged $453 for each Gathering. Additional donations were received for memorials in honor of Mac Young and Ray Carden, and separate community donations were made specifically for Walks #86 and #87. The community also received monthly EFT payments from 24 donors for a total of $452. For the spring walks, the fee charged by Disciples Crossing for spring walks is $153 per pilgrim, $12 less than the walk fee of $165. However, for fall walks, Camp Gilmont charges $175 per pilgrim, which is $10 over what is paid by pilgrims. Remember that there are additional costs associated with each pilgrim attending (Upper Room reimbursement, Jesus is counting on you crosses, pilgrim candles, Worship books, table supplies, etc.), which need to come from community donations. To help offset variations in expenses, please consider a monthly donation. It is very easy and safe. You complete the form (provided on the last page of this newsletter and available at Gatherings) with the necessary information or attach a voided check. The amount donated will show on your bank statement as Tyler Emmaus Community. The transaction can be stopped at any time simply by written notification. (It can even be stopped for a month or two, and then resumed.) If you are unable to attend Gatherings, please consider this alternative, which is a way to stay connected and help each of us with consistent giving to our community. In our efforts to keep our community strong and continue our commitment, we humbly ask that you prayerfully consider where your involvement is needed. The costs are high and the financial need great, but the reward is simply priceless. Reunion Group Information: It is so important to be in a reunion group!! There's a list if active groups on the Emmaus website with times and locations! If none of these work for you, it only takes two people to start one In your area and a time that works for you. Lisa Brewer

Mules and Carts Needed for Fall Walks As most of you know, at each Walk we provide transportation between buildings for those who have mobility issues. If you can help provide either a golf cart or mule (also known as an ATV or UTV) this Fall, please contact Brett Walker or Wynn Harle as soon as possible. If you are looking for a way to serve but are not on a team, this might be the opportunity you have been looking for. If we have to rent these, it will come at considerable expense to the community. Please contact Brett at 903-987-3090 or Wynn at 903-245-2701 if you can help. ASK ME ABOUT EMMAUS It s not too early to start conversations about Emmaus with potential pilgrims. Summer is almost here and it changes many people s schedules with vacations, changes in church times, etc. To help you start conversations, wear your Ask me about Emmaus buttons and have an Emmaus pamphlet available to offer them. Try to schedule a time and place to talk with both the husband and wife or individuals, as the case may be, and be ready to share your experiences and answer any questions they may have. October will be here too soon and we would love to fill both Walks. I will have buttons, pamphlets and form letters, to send to people writing letters to pilgrims, at future Gatherings or contact me by phone or Email; ( available on the graceemmaus.com website.) Have a blessed, safe and happy Summer.
