April 13, 2014 Palm Sunday We will not be doing our soup kitchen at St. Andre Bessette next week as usual on the 3 rd Thursday of the month. SJB is My Family/SJB es Mi Familia Sometimes in our busy lives we forget to check in with the quiet people around us. If you are one of those quiet ones, please know you are not forgotten and we hope you do not feel ignored. This week we d like to hear how we are doing Are your needs being met? How can we do a better job of helping you deepen your faith and grow spiritually? Sometimes circumstances change, people move, or even, (yes) feel ignored. You may be new to the parish but haven t been properly welcomed. We want you to know you are an important part of the SJB faith-family, and we care about you. Please write us a note and either drop it in the box marked Connections in the back of church, or send it to the parish office, to the attention of Father Jorge, or Libbie Allen. Please pray our needs will be met. April 13, 2014 Palm Sunday Liturgy Corner The Triduum The three days of the Paschal Triduum are really one celebration, focusing on three aspects of one and the same mystery: Christ s passage through Death into eternal life. The paschal mystery of Jesus celebrated during the Triduum is not an event in which we wait to see the outcome. As Christians we know that the events in the life of Christ have already taken place and that Jesus does not die again. He is resurrected and death has no power over him. Each of us is challenged to re-enter Christ s paschal mystery every year, and to die to ourselves so that we may experience new life in Christ. The Triduum is central to our faith because it leads us into the heart of our identity as the Catholic Church. Jesus life, death and resurrection is the foundation our Christian belief. Our sharing in the paschal mystery characterizes what it means to be a Christian and a life-giving member of the Catholic community. Christ redeemed us all and gave perfect glory to God principally through his paschal mystery: dying he destroyed our death and rising he restored our life. Therefore the Easter Triduum of the passion and resurrection of Christ is the culmination of the entire liturgical year. The Easter Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord s Supper, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes with evening prayers on Easter Sunday. (General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar 18). The Triduum (Latin for three days ) are the three days leading to Easter Sunday. The Easter mystery proclaims the core beliefs of their Christian faith: the power of life over death. The Triduum is understood as one three-day-long liturgy. The three principal liturgies help us in this feeling of one long liturgy. There is no dismissal on Holy Thursday. Good Friday we assemble and depart with no introductory or concluding rite and the Easter Vigil celebration begins outside around the fire. The focus is the same all three days. The focus is on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the life that flows from that mystery, The Paschal Mystery. In sharing the bread of his life that is broken for us, in drinking of the cup of his blood that is poured out, we are nourished in eternal life; we are united to him and to one another; we commit ourselves to live in a manner that re-members his presence among us. In so doing, we proclaim his Death and his life of self-giving until he comes in glory. {sources: Ministry & Liturgy, Source book, Bringing Catechesis and Liturgy together and What Every Catholic needs to know} Adult Enrichment Happenings! As we are looking toward our next series of Adult Enrichment classes I would like to know what you would like to attend. Please contact Pat at 503-654-5449 or pat.raschio@gmail.com if you have ideas for Adult Enrichment. Did you miss the Quick Journey Through the Bible an 8 week bible study class? Those who attend the fall and winter class expressed how helpful it was to their understanding of the bible especially making the readings at Mass more meaningful. Would you like to attend? I would like to offer another session either in June or July. Maybe a day time would work for parents when your kids are out of school. Parents, think about enriching you scriptural knowledge after the kids get out of school. I would love to hear from you. I have calendared for the 24 week session The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation. The people I spoke with preferred the September 11 th through March 19 th with breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This session will be held on Thursday evenings. I will also offer the session during the day on Wednesday. Do not let the 24 weeks deter you from attending, as the sessions are easily to make up. Low Gluten Host (0.01%): St. John s has purchased a new low gluten host. If you need to receive the Blessed Eucharist with this low gluten host please follow these procedures at Mass. At communion time arrange yourself to be the last person in the priest line. When it is your turn to receive tell the priest you need a low gluten host and he will go to the tabernacle to get you one and then give you communion. If you have questions please call Pat at the parish office.
