Most Rev. Thomas J. Flanagan Liaison for CCCR Father Bob Hogan, BBD Associate Liaison A Blessed 2014 to You! live it, love it, do it in the holy spirit THANKS I want to express my appreciation for 3 members of the English Service Committee who will be finishing their terms on the committee: Mary Esther Lopez from St. Philip of Jesus (chair of the committee); Rachel Coronado from Prince of Peace (secretary); and Connie Alvarado from Prince of Peace. They have been a blessing to the ministry of CCCR. I especially thank Mary Esther for the amount of time she has put into serving the ministry of the Center as the chairperson. I am also thankful for the many people from both the Spanish and English Service Committees along with Norma Alaniz and the Center s volunteers who organized and facilitated the Washing of the Hands and Blessing of the Renewal Mass and luncheon. I am grateful to Fr. Will Combs, BBD for helping Bishop Tom, since I (Fr. Bob) had another commitment out of town. Thanks also to Dan Duet who gave wonderful Music and Worship workshops in November. HOLY LAND PRAYERS In November I attended an international leaders conference for the Charismatic Renewal in Bethlehem in the Holy Land. The event was sponsored by International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Service (ICCRS), which have their offices in the Vatican in Rome. 190 leaders from 48 countries around the world came together to seek the Lord s direction as we prepare for the 50th anniversary of Catholic Charismatic Renewal, our Jubilee Year, in 2017. The group included bishops from India, the Philippines, Australia, and the Ivory Coast in Africa. On the last day we had a pilgrimage in Jerusalem following the way of the cross. We spent time praying for the Charismatic Renewal in the Garden of Gethsemane, along the way of the cross, in the Church where Mt. Calvery and the place of Jesus burial is located, and in the location of the Upper Room where Jesus had the Last Supper and the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost. Trust that these prayers will be a grace for Charismatic Renewal in San Antonio! CONFERENCE KICKOFF As you will see in this issue, we are having our Conference Kickoff Mass and Luncheon at St. Mary Magdalen Church and Hall on Saturday, February 1, 2014. This is a great opportunity to bring together all our Spanish and English groups to prepare prayerfully for the conference in March. Please call (2267545) by Friday, January 24 and let us know how many people will be coming as individuals, or from your group, so we know how much food to prepare. February 3 will be the last day to register for the conference at the lower price. So come for prayer, fellowship, food, and to sign up for the conference. EXERCISING THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT: LIVE IT, LOVE IT, DO IT! Conference on March 21-22, 2014 at St. Mary Magdalen Church with English and Spanish Tracks. Jesse Romero will be speaking to both tracks with other anointed speakers. Learn how to live and work in partnership with the Holy Spirit, exercising his gifts. We will call each other forth to this greater partnership with the Spirit and with joy in our hearts we will want to live it, love it and do it! Invite others and spread the word. JAN 2014-Page 2

News from the English Service Committee by: Mary Esther Lopez, Chair Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: On January 2010, I said Yes to the Lord as he called me by name into service. I remember that I felt overwhelmed and unsure about whether I would be able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a service committee member at the Archdiocesan level. But at the same time I sensed His Spirit urging me on and whispering words of reassurance deep into my soul; words that kept coming to my mind when I encountered difficulties; words that became somewhat of a love song that played over and over in my heart. How the Holy Spirit serenaded me with His love and the lyrics to His song always ended with do not be afraid, I am with you. What little I have accomplished in the last four years through the collaboration of staff, service committee members, and volunteers is nothing compared to what I have received from the Lord as a result of surrendering myself to His will through service to the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal (CCCR). Looking back at these last four years, I can clearly see that I came here at first as a wounded little lamb. The Lord, my Shepherd, carried me ever so gently on His shoulders bringing healing into my life through intimacy with Him. There on His shoulders I grew strong and when I was ready to follow Him is when He called me into service. As I persevered in His service, the more he taught me and the more I grew in the gifts that He gave me. How truly blessed I am to know that without Him I can do nothing, and that all that I am; all that I have; and all I will ever be is because of Him. My greatest blessing is that I am so aware of the fact that all of my skills, knowledge, and abilities are His gifts to me; and the more I use them for His honor and glory, the more I grow. In my term of service, I have been blessed to meet and work with a lot of good people and have formed new relationships and made some new friends. But the greatest gift of all is the peace in my heart that I have because of my obedience to the Holy Spirit in responding to the invitation to serve in Leadership. I am very grateful to Father Bob Hogan for helping me to become a better leader and for his mentoring that has made me a better person. I am grateful to all the English and Spanish Service Committee members for their support and hard work. I am especially grateful to Norma Alaniz for her untiring support and assistance to the Service Committee throughout these last four years. Brothers and Sisters, to serve in the Church is to live out our baptismal vows and as the Laity, we have a very important role to play. But I believe Jesus says it best in His revelation to Catalina Rivas noted in her book titled, The Holy Mass, the fruits you receive in the Eucharist should bear the fruits of conversion in you and fruits of charity toward your brothers and sisters. The Laity has an important role in the Church to go forth and announce the Good News. You do not have the right to be silent, because I have sent you out, as all the baptized. You do not have the right to absorb all this knowledge and not share it with others, and to allow your brothers to die of hunger when you have so much bread in your hands. Even though I will no longer be a member of the English Service Committee, I will always be a Friend of the CCCR. Thank You and God Bless You, Mary Esther Lopez, Chair English Service Committee JAN 2014-Page 3
