CHARLES AND HELENA CHURCH AUGUST 5, 2018 CLIO, MICHIGAN THE EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Student Backpack Project The Social Justice Commission will be filling backpacks with school supplies and donating them to Clio Schools this fall. Please help us by purchasing school supplies and/or a backpack. Drop them into the bins located in the vestibules of the church on the weekends of August 4th and 5th and August 19th and 20th. Monetary donations will also be accepted at the parish office or by placing your donation in an envelope and putting it in the Sunday offering basket. Please make sure your envelope is marked School Supplies. A list of items needed are as follows: markers, dry erase markers, crayons, glue sticks, pencils, colored pencils, scissors, small hand sanitizers, travel size Kleenex, spiral notebooks, notebook paper, folders, rulers, erasers, binders and backpacks. FAITH COMMUNITY NEWS FOOD PANTRY PLEASE HELP! Mother Hubbard s cupboards are getting bare! Please help us support those in our community who need assistance by donating food items to our food pantry. We need canned vegetables and fruit, small containers of coffee, dish soap, laundry soap, hand soap, Hamburger Helper, boxed macaroni, soup, spaghetti noodles and sauce, shampoo and conditioner, feminine care products, toilet paper and paper towel. Please place donations in the boxes located in each vestibule at the church or in the box marked Food Pantry in the parish hall. Isaiah 58:10 says: If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. WRITING AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE Writing can be a sacred tool, allowing us to slow down enough to see the wonders of life around us. Sister Tarianne DeYonker, OP, leads a two-part series to help participants understand and experience the spiritual values of writing. Sessions are from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, August 11th and August 18th. Cost is $80.00 and registration is required. DON T FORGET TO VOTE ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2018 The primary election for state and local offices is being held on Tuesday, August 7th. There are also three proposals for Genesee County residents to vote for on the ballot. These mil-ages will be decided in the primary and WILL NOT be on the November ballot. If you have an absentee ballot it must be in the hands of the clerk by election day in order to be counted. SEPTEMBERFEST PARISH PICNIC We re all getting excited for our parish picnic on September 9th! This event needs many helpers to make things run smoothly. We will be looking for volunteers to help with pavilion set-up, food preparation, games, and clean up. Representatives will have sign-up sheets available after all Masses on the weekends of August 12th and August 19th. Can you help for an hour or two? In order to prepare enough food, please turn an RSVP form into the office by September 2nd. Forms will be available beginning the weekend of August 12th. We hope to see you there! MARY AS A MODEL OF FAITH Mary, Mother of Jesus and a woman of faith, lived in dangerous times in a small country occupied by the Roman Empire.
