FEBRUARY 7, 2016 You are merciful to all, O Lord, and despise nothing that you have made. You overlook people s sins, to bring them to repentance, and you spare them, for you are the Lord our God. Wisdom 11 Dear Parishioners and Friends, Time passes quickly. Ash Wednesday begins this week on February 10th. Masses with the distribution of ashes will be at 8:15am, 9:00am and 6:30pm. We have the Lenten Little Black Book available for adults, and Children s Lenten books available after masses this weekend. These Lenten meditation booklets are a wonderful way to walk through Lent as they provide a daily reflection meditation and prayer. They are a free gift from your parish for you. Enjoy! Parishioners will be receiving a Lenten schedule of events in the mail there are extra copies in the back of church. Don t forget to mark your calendar with all of the special Lenten opportunities. Beginning on Tuesday, February 23rd, our Lenten Soup Suppers with Bread will begin. Come join us then and for the next three following Tuesday evenings for a simple meal followed by a great Lenten reflection and music in church. Be sure to mark your calendar with the date of our annual Diocesan Day of Penance on Wednesday, March 9th from 12:30pm-7:30pm. All Diocesan churches will be open this day during these times for reconciliation. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also made available here at St. Rita every Wednesday now and throughout the Year of Mercy at 8:45am (following daily mass), as well as on Saturday afternoons from 3:30pm-4:30pm. The Extraordinary Year of Mercy is a unique opportunity to get back with the Lord and unburden ourselves of the guilt of sin and separation we may find in our relationship with God. Why carry a heavy load when we can begin anew and experience the grace of Jesus in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. May God bless you this week, Fr. Today, we have a partial list of Luke s EXCLUSIVE passages (that is, they are NOT in Matthew, Mark or John only in Luke): Baby Jesus adored by angels and shepherds Presentation of Jesus in the Temple (e.g., last Tuesday s feast February 2) the Good Samaritan the Prodigal Son King Herod disciples on the road to Emmaus on Easter. With the start of Lent this week, the sequential reading of Luke is suspended until Ordinary Time resumes in June. However, the Sunday liturgies will still use Luke during Lent (including the Passion on Palm Sunday). Hence, this series will finish for the time begin until Ordinary Time (green vestments) resumes.
