Elana Chesler will give the sermon in the Main Shul on Shabbat morning, the Ladies Tea and Torah on Sunday afternoon, the Shiur in the Main Shul on Sunday evening and a 30 minute shiur at Yavneh on Monday morning after Kiddush entitled In-side-out: the multiple dimensions of the 10 commandments. They will both be speaking at the Ne ilat HaChag Seudah on Monday afternoon at Croxdale Road.
Shavuot 5776 / 2016 @ BES: Scholars in Residence Rabbi Shalom Hammer Rabbi Shalom Hammer has lived in Israel for 26 years. He has had the unique experience of having served under the Chaplaincy for the Israel Defence Forces as well as an educator in Israeli institutions such as the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem and the Hesder Yeshiva affiliated with Sderot, an institution which promotes Torah study together with service in combat forces of the IDF. Currently Rabbi Hammer serves as a senior lecturer for the Jewish Identity Branch of the IDF, a contributing editor for the Jerusalem Post and founder and director of Makom Meshutaf, an organisation which advocates tolerance and unity between religious and secular Jews in Israel through educational programs. Elana Chesler teaches regularly for US Living and Learning. She is the editor of the Degel Journal of Jewish Thought published by the Alei Tzion United Synagogue community. Elana works as a Manager at Capita Asset Services (part of Capita plc). She holds an MSc in Public Policy and Management and an MA in Hebrew and Jewish Studies (both from the University of London) and graduated with a BEd from Michlalah (Jerusalem).
