May 21, 2017 10:30 am Laura Lorek Donna Heindl Deceased Fifth Sunday of Easter Reflection Who does not cherish the desire for a home, a harbor of peace and refreshment? Jesus announces his departure in terms of that human desire. He is going before his disciples to prepare a place for them. I am the Way is as strange a proclamation as I am the gate for the sheep (John 10:7), but they help us examine the implications of the Easter experience. You know the way that leads where I go (John 14:4). We are sympathetic with the misunderstanding of Thomas and Phillip. They would like to specify the road and identify the place where they will see the Father. But there is no need for a map. Jesus is the way to the Father. We must follow him. Whoever has seen him has seen the Father. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life because he is one with God: he is in the Father and the Father is in him. Authentic Christian faith in not anonymous. We cannot believe in a faceless God. Christianity teaches us to recognize God in the face of Jesus of Nazareth. By identifying his face in the disfigured faces of those whose suffering he bore on the cross, we find our dwelling place in him. Questions of the Week - Reflect and Respond to Scripture John 14:1-12 Jesus tells his disciples, "In my Father's house there are many dwelling places." What do you think this reveals about heaven? Acts 6:1-7 In today's reading, Luke details how the growing Jerusalem church needed to restructure its duties in the service of others. How does your faith community serve others? 1 Peter 2:4-9 According to Peter, how is the idea of Christ as the "cornerstone" a stumbling block to non-believers?

MAY 14, 2017 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER PAGE 3 Ladies of Charity Installation, 2017 From Father Bob, On behalf of the parish, I wish to offer my heartfelt congratulations to twenty-five members of the parish Ladies of Charity (listed below), who were officially invested as members of the Diocesan Ladies of Charity on Sunday, April 30, 2017 by Most Reverent William Winter, retired Aux. Bishop of Pittsburgh, at Saint Paul Cathedral. Let us pray for all the Ladies of Charity as they continue to live out and fulfill the command of Jesus in doing charitable works. On May 11, 2017, Holy Sepulcher On Mission for the Church Alive! team leaders attended a district meeting at St. Catherine of Sweden Parish. At that time, we received the new parish grouping for our area. We would like to provide and share all the information we received with you at the meeting. Along with providing you this information on the proposed groupings, or alternative groupings, your input and feedback is important. We urge you to attend and let us know what you are thinking. MOTHERHOOD - FOR ALL WOMEN Mothers, and those who serve in any mother-like capacity, are special people. It s no wonder that secular society sets aside a special day to honor them. Mothers are so important that even Jesus, Himself, entrusted us with a perfect mother, His very own. In the concept of motherhood, we find much more than just providing initial life through birth. In this concept, and in those persons who emulate it in their lives we find the very qualities of God nurturing, love fidelity, guidance, forgiveness, compassion and mercy. Today, like every day, all of us should love, respect and cherish those qualities found in our mothers and many others whose role calls them to exercise these beautiful virtues. Today, we honor and pray for all those beautiful and wonderful women in our lives, who, by living those virtues of God, Himself, and molded so beautifully by our special Mother, Mary, have made our lives so much more meaningful. Mothers, and all those other wonderful women, may God bless you, may those you serve love and cherish you, and may the world, secular and religious, always respect and love you for the gift you are to all of us. They gather in Christ s presence to share experiences, strength and hope, and prayerfully support one another in an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality. Scripture readings and reflections are used for the weekly lesson plans. Then there are questions that provoke discussion in the group pertaining to those readings and to real world situations in which a man may find himself in.
