REASON 67 Truth is said to be the first casualty of war. And Pilate cynically asked Jesus, What is truth? Even, perhaps especially, in our own age there seems to be an assault on truth. Where can we look for honesty, authenticity, certainty? Are we confident that what we hear from the media is accurate, or are they promoting a particular perspective? Do we trust what politicians tell us, or are they representing a partisan position? The examples of attacks on the truth in our world are numerous, and the result is often a skeptical, suspicious people. That s why we need somewhere to turn which is consistently reliable, where we can find the truth every time we seek it. That s Sunday Mass. There is no deceit in the Mass. It has stood the test of time for over two thousand years. When we have little or no confidence in the institutions of our age, we can be sure that in the Mass we genuinely encounter not just the truth, but the way and the life as well. f tewardship Queen of All Saints Basilica Committed to Christ, sharing God's gifts, building the Church together 5th Sunday of Easter May 14, 2017 Stewardship of Talent Our call to practice Stewardship of Talent is an invitation to live out our faith by discerning where and how the Spirit is calling us to serve. Consider this your personal invitation to follow your heart and passions in order to be the person God created you to be. We truly believe that your involvement in any one of our many parish ministries increases your happiness and helps you grow closer to the Lord. It is a proven fact that many of our parishioners have found great joy and satisfaction by increasing their involvement in the life of Queen of All Saints Parish. We invite you to join them. Your commitment to service will make a difference for you and for our parish. This week we make special note of the generous spirit of giving of our many volunteers who have worked so hard to make this year s United Parish Program a success. We hope you will be able to join us this Friday at this special event, either in person or through your other support! The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. 1 PETER 2:7 Everyone is given unique gifts. Many people are able to recognize their talents and abilities, but there are many people who are unsure of their gifts. This may make them feel worthless. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern how they might use their skills. No gift is too small or insignificant. April 24th to 30th, 2017 Sunday Stewardship Donation Type Amount Users Envelopes $16,403.29 529 Loose Donation $3,436.95 n/a Elect. Giving $4,522.95 134 Total $24,36.19 YTD Total $1,180,997.12 April 2017 $108,306.12 4 Sundays April 2016 $111,312.00 4 Sundays Please consider what we can give back to our parish, in our time, our talent, and our treasure, in response to the great gifts God has given us. Our parish needs our help especially now. We realize that our parish s calls for our help seem never to take a break. Right now we are asking for participation in our United Parish Program (UPP) as we prepare for our May 19 gala, Field of Dreams. This is our single parishwide fundraiser and we depend on the proceeds of this event to meet out budgeted operating costs for the year. This year s event promises to be yet another fine social and financial success! At the same time we are beginning to ask our parishioners to consider an increase in their Sunday offering to pay for the cost of our very recently announced Basilica ceiling project, which is an unexpected and very significant need, and is on top of our already successful capital campaign To Teach Who Christ Is. Throughout the wonderful history of our parish there has been an uninterrupted series of very positive responses to calls for support. We know that the challenges we face today will be met with the same success that our predecessors in this parish achieved! Thank you for all you do for our parish! Our Capital Campaign: how to fulfill your pledge The best way to fulfill your pledge is to use the self addressed envelope included with your periodic pledge reminders: Archdiocese of Chicago Gift Processing PO Box 7256 Kensington CT 06037-7256 A favor if instead you decide to drop your payment into the collection basket, please use a plain envelope clearly marked CAPITAL CAMPAIGN and use your capital campaign account number (not your envelope number) on your check. If you are a registered parishioner, please come into the rectory during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. If it is not possible for you to come into the rectory, please call the rectory to make arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated two or three Sundays of the month, depending on the time of year, at 1:30 PM - call the rectory for the exact schedule. A Baptismal Preparation class for the parents is required. They are held once a month and must also be scheduled in advance. If an adult or a school age child seeks baptism, special arrangements should be made with one of the priests. The Sacrament of Matrimony Queen of All Saints helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage. Parishioners of Queen of All Saints Basilica who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may celebrate their marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica. Couples from Queen of All Saints seeking marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage. The couple must meet with one of the priests before the date for the marriage can be confirmed. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him/her to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age, may properly receive this sacrament. Fifth Sunday of Easter May 14, 2017 15
