FATHER DON S GOSPEL REFLECTION JN 3:16-18 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. This is taken from the second reading in today s liturgy. Wouldn t it be awesome to always greet one another with this? These words would bring a rush of peace, a warm heart, and perhaps it would be a lasting feeling. We hear similar words when we begin each Mass to remind us who we are in the presence of. Grace, love and fellowship are offered by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in the spirit of communion. Is it any wonder that this greeting begins the liturgy? I wonder though, how many people truly feel that presence when they hear those words? We all come with our own baggage when we arrive at Mass. Perhaps we have struggled to get out of bed because we have had a heck of a week at work. Maybe we are not ready to hear the Trinitarian greeting because we haven t felt God s presence lately. Parents may find themselves struggling because they had to put their foot down to get the troops to church and at this point, they just aren t feeling the warm greeting. What if this is the day the greeting will slap us against the head and we finally realize what the Father, Son and Holy Spirit have for us? When I was in the seminary so many years ago, whenever something was truly unexplainable the line was, it s a mystery. When it came time to try to explain the Trinity, this was almost a standard response. This is Trinity Sunday and it would be easy to go with the standard answer, for it would be a true statement, but how does that really help us understand what to celebrate? From the Father comes the Son and the love between the Father and the Son brings the Spirit to us. Jesus told us repeatedly that his mission here on earth was to do the will of the Father. As we hear in the Gospel this week, Jesus came to save the world, not to condemn it. But it is not a magic act where a wave of the hand covers it. There must be an active yes by those who embrace the words of Jesus. Or better yet, one must accept the grace that Jesus offers us. The father s love is key to our salvation. But it is nothing new. From creation, God loved all that he created and he saw it as VERY GOOD. But if we do nothing, with the love instilled in our hearts, a love that is at the very core of who we are, it is useless. When we embrace that love, and realize the Son has given us insight to the Father s Master plan, we realize it is the fellowship of the Holy Spirit that brings it all together. What a God we have. A God who gives us the grace to be a part of his kingdom. A God who will never stop loving us and accepts us for who we are - totally. Finally, a God who shows us how to interact in fellowship with the Trinity, giving us his Spirit to lead us to the goodness of God. The Father, Son, and Spirit call us by name to be in communion with God. Now it is time to respond to the call; yes, Lord I am all yours. Have a great week! Festival Committee Member Of the Week Gary Eiser has been in charge of many different areas of the festival. He is one of our go to guys when we are prepping for festival time. Because he has done just about everything, he always knows where to hang signs, find things in the festival garage or place supplies. Gary is currently in charge of our food ordering and pricing. This is a very important role on our festival committee because of the profits earned and also because it keeps all of our festival goers well fed. He has to look at past sales and pricing to determine how much to order and how we can price each item every year. Prior to this job, Gary had taken care of sponsorships and turned that into a true money maker for our festival. He has quite the business mind! In his spare time, Gary works as a computer software engineer. Gary and his wife Penny and their grown children, Andrea, Nicole and Matthew, have been members of St. John since 1999. Everyone in the family has been seen working at festival setup, tear-down and during the festival! No one gets off the hook in this family. Gary and Penny also run our Java for Justice ministry which sells fair trade coffee and chocolates after Masses once a month. We are so appreciative of what Gary and his family does for our parish! Basket Bonanza If you are interested in volunteering or helping to buy items for our basket bonanza, you can e-mail Janet Raters at raters@ cinci.rr.com or text / call 513-324-9676. On the first weekend of each month the K of C leads the rosary before all Masses. The rosary will start 20 minutes before Mass except for the 11:30 a.m. Mass. At the 11:30 a.m. Mass, the rosary will begin at 11 a.m. Come and join us as we lead the rosary. We have much to be thankful for and you can also include any special intentions. 9
