Welcome to Divine Grace Lutheran Church Welcome to worship! May God fill your heart with his Holy Spirit and bless your hour of worship. May you find in Jesus the eternal peace, joy and comfort for which your soul longs. If you are a visitor, please sign the Guest Register in the entryway of the church with your complete name and address. Be sure to visit us again! Theme: Our fellowship with God is established by the blood of Christ and mediated by the Word of God, according to his marvelous grace. Liturgy: Service of Light, p. 54 (Thursday) Morning Praise, p. 45 (Sunday service) Psalm 84, page 96 in the hymnal Let us go re-joic-ing to the house of the Lord. How lovely is your 'dwelling place,* O Lord Al'mighty! My soul yearns, 'even faints,* for the courts 'of the Lord. Blessed are those who dwell 'in your house;* they are ever 'praising you. Let us go re-joic-ing to the house of the Lord. Better is one day 'in your courts* than a thousand 'elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house 'of my God* than dwell in the tents of the 'wicked. O Lord Al'mighty,* blessed are they who 'trust in you. Glory be to the Father and 'to the Son* and to the Holy 'Spirit, as it was in the be'ginning,* is now, and will be forever. 'Amen. Let us go re-joic-ing to the house of the Lord. - 1 -
Scripture Lesson: John 6:1-15 Jesus miraculous feeding of the 5,000 convinces many that he is the Prophet who is to come into the world. Yet many fail to understand his message of repentance, forgiveness, and salvation by God s grace alone. Jesus is the ultimate spokesman for his Father on earth. 1After this, Jesus crossed over to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Tiberias). 2 A large crowd followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he was performing on those who were sick. 3 Jesus went up on the hillside and sat down there with his disciples. 4The Jewish Passover Festival was near. 5 When Jesus looked up and saw a huge crowd coming toward him, he asked Philip, Where can we buy bread for these people to eat? 6 But Jesus was saying this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to have just a little. 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter s brother, said to him, 9 There s a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what is that for so many people? 10 Jesus said, Have the people sit down. There was plenty of grass in that place, so they sat down. There were about five thousand men. 11 Then Jesus took the loaves and, after giving thanks, he distributed pieces to those who were seated. He also did the same with the fish as much as they wanted. 12 When the people were full, he told his disciples, Gather the pieces that are left over so that nothing is wasted. 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the miraculous sign Jesus did, they said, This really is the Prophet who is coming into the world. 15 When Jesus realized that they intended to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself. Hymn of the Day If Your Beloved Son, O God CW 393 Sermon Text: Exodus 24:3-11 3Moses came and reported to the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances. Then all the people answered with one voice and said, All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do. 4 Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. He got up early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He set up twelve memorial stones for the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 He sent young Israelite men, who offered whole burnt offerings and sacrificed fellowship offerings of cattle to the LORD. 6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and he splashed half of the blood on the altar. 7 He took the Book of the Covenant and read it out loud to the people and they said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. We will obey. 8 Moses took the blood and splashed it on the people. He said, Look, here is the blood of the covenant, which the LORD made with you by means of all these words. 9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went - 2 -
up. 10 They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet they saw what looked like a pavement of sapphire as clear as the sky. 11 The LORD did not lay his hand on the dignitaries of the people of Israel. They gazed at God, and they ate and drank. All scripture quotations are taken from The Holy Bible, Evangelical Heritage Version TM (EHV TM ) copyright 2016 The Wartburg Project.
