For further information call the SEAS SVDP help line at 949-854-1000 Ext. 236 Frequently asked Questions (FAQ s) What is the Voice of the Poor? The Voice of the Poor job description says: In the spirit of Christian love and justice, the Voice of the Poor Committee upholds Catholic values by researching, validating, documenting, advocating and promulgating issues related to the condition of the poor and disenfranchised for the purpose of helping Vincentians to live their faith by action. This one voice is for the purpose of building up the Kingdom of God. Why must we get involved? As Catholics and members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we see the face of Jesus in those we visit. We have responsibility to be a voice of the poor and to speak out for those who have no voice. I was hungry and you gave me to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me to drink. I was in prison and you visited me. We are called to move from being affected by what we see in our home visits and special works activities to being effective in our service to the poor. Vincentians help people in need. If you know of someone needing the help of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, you may make a call to our church office. The Society will call you back and talk to you about a home visit. Contact: svdp@seasirvine.org Tel: (949) 854-1000 ext. 236

SEAS SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY Society of St. Vincent de Paul Conference at SEAS needs your help. Volunteers are needed for home visits, food deliveries and special projects. Any donation of time, money, and prayers are always appreciated. Below is a summary of the programs operated by the Conference. Home visits Members of the home visits team meet with the needy of the community. Through prayer and discussion, the team partners with people in need to chart a path forward. Food delivery program Every two weeks parishioners volunteer their time to shop for, sort, pack and deliver food to needy families. Last month, the conference s food program delivered 272 bags of food to 104 individuals in 30 families. This program has helped many families reduce their food expenses during difficult periods. The time commitment for volunteers is minimal. There are opportunities to volunteer in any of the four areas of the program: Shopping, sorting, packing and delivering food. Summer Camp Underprivileged children deserve the opportunity to attend Summer Camp, too. The Conference reaches out to families in need with children to offer this opportunity. Volunteer opportunities include assistance with completing applications, coordinating physicals and transportation to/from the departure/return site. Toys for Tots The conference functions as an agency to distribute toys donated through the Toys for Tots program. Each year, toys are delivered to children of families in need. Volunteer opportunities include sorting and delivering toys at Christmastime. Fundraising The generous donations of our faith community provide the Conference with the financial assistance to operate its programs. Donations are accepted throughout the year. In addition, the Conference holds two annual fundraisers in the Fall: Dinner with the Bishop and Sharing the Harvest. The latter features a silent auction and opportunity drawing. There are volunteer opportunities for both events. The programs above are the Conference s execution of the Society s mission to serve the needy. Volunteers grow in their faith by participation in the Conference s programs. Pray for the SEAS Conference its members, volunteers and the families, adults, and children served. LEGION OF MARY ~ A PILGRIM VIRGIN VISIT RESERVE ONE WEEK VISIT OF THE PILGRIM VIRGIN FOR YOUR HOME The SEAS Legion of Mary invites all our parishioners to participate in a Pilgrim Virgin Visit. We are asking households to sign up, to have a one week devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary and pray the rosary as a family in the presence of her statue each day. A member of the Legion of Mary will deliver and pick-up the Our Lady of Grace statue to and from your home with prayer booklets, rosaries and symbols of our faith. This is a wonderful way to thank our Mother Mary for her intercession and all the blessings bestowed on you and your family. "We really enjoyed our time with our Blessed Mother. Having been part of this important faith journey, it has opened the door even wider for our children to want to learn more about the Virgin Mary and our faith." - Gera Lyne and Tony Hagerstrand The Pilgrim Virgin with the Hagerstrand family The Pilgrim Virgin with the Lane family Our Pilgrim Virgin is scheduled to visit the: July 18-24: Piedad Family July 25-31: Kim Family August 1-7: Simeon Family August 8-14: Pugeda Family August 15-21: Dungo Family "The Pilgrim Virgin was quite a pleasure to have in our household. We enjoyed praying the rosary every night, and after a while, it became natural. My dad was ill during some of the time that the Pilgrim Virgin was with us, but Mary watched over him until he was better. Luckily, he was able to pray at least the first rosary with us before falling ill, but Mary was with us always. It was a pleasure having the Pilgrim Virgin with us, and we hope that she will visit us again. -Giuliana Lane, age 11 To arrange for a home visitation contact Rosanna Telephone: (949) 725-8386 Email: thepilgrimvirgin@gmail.com
