MEMORY VERSE HELPS MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 119:11 GOD S WORD AND ME #4 The Prodigal Son Thy Word have I hidden in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) INTRODUCE THE VERSE: Have you ever hidden something? Perhaps you hid it so you could keep it for a special time when you would need it. Our Bible verse today tells us that if we hide God s Word in our hearts, it will help keep us from sin. Let s learn the verse to see how that can be. READ THE VERSE: Read the verse from the Bible or have an older child read it; then have all the children read with you from the verse visual. EXPLAIN THE VERSE: Psalm 119:11 This is where the verse is found in the Bible. We call it the address or reference. It is found in the book of Psalm, chapter 119, verse 11. Thy Word have I hidden in mine heart, When we memorize God s Word, we are hiding it in our hearts. In other words, we are storing it up for future protection. that I might not sin against Thee. As we store away God s Word in our hearts, it helps protect us and guard us when we are tempted to disobey God and sin. REPEAT THE VERSE: Boys or Girls After reading this verse from the Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. Have the class pass a Bible from one child to the next child as they recite the verse. If a girl is holding the Bible at the end of the verse, all the girls join in reciting the verse together. GO AND TELL BOX Week #15 Information About the Saüls INFORMATION (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box Map of Haiti) What do you think map of Haiti has to do with going and telling? (Let the children share their ideas.) The map reminds us of our missionaries in Haiti. Who remembers their names? (Show picture.) Haiti a small country, is part of an island in the Atlantic Ocean south of the state of Florida. It is a very poor country. Perhaps you have heard of the hurricane and other storms that have struck Haiti in recent months. There was no major damage to the area where Pastor Lucien has the school, health clinic, and the Bible Institute is located. But some of the churches from which the pastors who came to the Bible Institute this year had major damage; roofs blown off, walls knocked down, and huge amounts of flooding. Many people also lost their homes to the winds and floods from the hurricane. Pastor Lucien recently wrote a letter, in which he remind us, that the children in Haiti need to be rescued from the darkness of sin. They help the children by sharing the Good News of Jesus coming to earth to be their Saviour. They do this by inviting them to church, almost half of those who attend their church are children. You may also remember that they have a Christian Elementary school. At the school, they have devotions and classes every day where the Bible is taught at their grade level. Because Haiti is a poor country they provide a hot lunch every day. Pastor Lucien and his son Royden helped over 15 different churches hold Vacation Bible Schools for the children in different areas this past summer. They also helped the Pastors and children s workers host special holiday programs for Christmas and Easter. PRAYER THANK God for protecting Pastor Lucien and the school property from the hurricane so the children can continue to hear about Jesus. ASK God to give Pastor Lucien wisdom and understanding of ways they can reach more children. CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. BOX 4375 HARRISBURG, PA 17111-0375
