FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Fruit of the Spirit-Peace July 5 & 6, 2014 5:00 & 8:15 AS WE GATHER Many things in our lives accentuate the importance of being able to do something by ourselves. We may feel that if we just put in enough of our own effort, we can accomplish anything, including bringing about our own salvation. We may want to pretend that we are self-sufficient; but we are not. Nor do we have to be. Because Jesus has already done the heavy lifting to take the burden of sin from us, we can readily and joyfully carry the light burden with the easy yoke that is living in and for Him. Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. [John 20:19 23] Amen. All: The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power. to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is and everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. EPISTLE Romans 7:14 25a (Thanks to God through Jesus Christ.) [14] For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. [15] I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. PRAYER OF THE CHURCH Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. We pray for the Church, the community of God s forgiven people, asking that we may be engaged fully in service to God and in ministry to each other. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer and answer it according to Your great goodness. We make our petitions for the sick and all who this day are in need of our prayers, [especially...] that their prayers may be soon answered and that they may be supported by God s people as they further await His direction for their lives. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer and grant our requests according to Your will.
