Readings for July 30, 2017 1 Kings 3:5, 7-12 Solomon gains a kingdom and seeks to rule it with an understanding heart. Psalm 119:57, 72, 76-77, 127-128, 129-130 (97a) The law of God is celebrated as a precious gift, a rich treasure. Romans 8:28-30 Every fragment of our experience can work toward the good for God lovers. Matthew 13:44-52 Buried treasure, a great pearl, and sorting angels help describe God s reign. Sanctuary Candle In acknowledging the Real Presence of Christ, the Tabernacle Candle will burn from July 29 through August 4 in loving memory of Kara Elise Sloniger requested by the Kostelnik Families In Sympathy Keeping in our prayers and trusting that God will bring to their families comfort in the days ahead, we commend to your prayers the souls of Philip Skergan, Sr. and Michael Teacher Know that the Lord has welcomed our loved ones into the home of Heaven. Our parish community extends its deepest sympathies to their families and relatives on their loss. Pearls come with a price... Pearls are unlike other precious materials: Metals and gems are formed in the earth; pearls come from a living creature. Also, pearls do not need to be cut or polished -they re beautiful just the way they are. The actual science of how they are formed is profound: Pearls begin as an irritant inside the heart of the oyster, which secretes layer upon layer until the source is encased in lustrous coatings. What a perfect Christian metaphor for the redemptive value of suffering - that trials leave one with treasure.
