ST. PATRICK CHURCH Page 3 PORTLAND, MICHIGAN Caravans of Camels Isaiah 60:1-6 About those camels, we are not too sure about them. Yes, every nativity scene shows the magi seated on stately dromedaries, or leading their beasts of burden by bit and rein. But, quite honestly, the story of the Magi never tells us how they got there. They could have traveled on foot, in chariot, on horseback, elephants, or by camel but we just do not know. The reason we keep putting them on camels in our art is because of Isaiah s prophecy. He predicted that caravans of camels would fill Jerusalem, and that people from the East would come bearing gold and frankincense. Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! he proclaims. Your light has come. In Matthew s story, the magi realize that Jerusalem s light has come. They follow the star and bring their gifts of gold and frankincense. Myrrh, too. By telling about these gifts, Matthew turns our attention back to Isaiah. Reading that prophecy, we realize that the light Isaiah mentioned is the Light of the World, Jesus Christ. When we see the magi seated on camels, we are remembering Isaiah. When we remember Isaiah, we remember the light that came to shatter the darkness of our world. Those camels carry hope. Eucharistic Adoration Our Lord is hidden there in the Blessed Sacrament, waiting for us to come and visit Him, and make our requests to Him. St. John Vianney If you or someone you know is interested in going to Eucharistic Adoration but do not drive, let us know and rides can be arranged. Call Mike Cook at 517-242-1352. Caring for our Global Family Inspiring Quotes by Pope Francis from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) We are responsible for our neighboring familyj But you too, help one another: help one another always. One another. In this way, by helping one another, we will do some good. Family Perspective By Bud Ozar After meeting Jesus, the Magi returned home by another way. What in your family needs to be done another way? Do you need another way to resolve differences, to communicate or show affection? This is a new year, time to change what isn t working. Take a tip from some wise men, there s always another way. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS the Gentiles are co-heirs, members of the same body, and co-partners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel. EPHESIANS 3:6 Today we celebrate that Christ came to all of us, not just the Hebrews. He made us all one body with Him. We were all given different gifts; we all have different yet equally valuable roles to play in the Body of Christ. Ask God how He wants you to use your gifts so that we may all be one in this Year of Mercy. Intercessory Prayer That each of us use our unique gifts to help build the Body of Christ. Financial Activities Sponsor of the Week: Blundy-Hoppes Tire & Auto Clinic Deadline for submission in the bulletin for January 10th is Monday at 10:00 AM

Epiphany of the Lord Page 4 January 3, 2016 Youth Corner December 20 Junior High: See you next year on Friday January 8th! High School: See you for our Christmas Party Sunday 3rd from 6 to 8 PM. Yes I did say Christmas Party. ichallenge: When dealing with conflict do not seek a high road, or a middle road but rather pause, listen, and travel down the road Christ is calling you to. FESTIVAL OF TABLES Please save the date of January 30, 2016 to attend PAMA s special fundraiser for their Compassion Fund, with special guest speaker, Julie Calley. Tickets are now available at the Parish Office and the Church of the Nazarene Office. If you are interested in hosting a table for House For Sale A couple of years ago, St. Patrick Parish, on behalf of the Diocese of Grand Rapids, purchased the house at the corner of West and Grand River Avenue. Because this property no longer fits our long range plan, we have decided to sell the property. We would have loved to enlist the services of a parishioner realtor to sell the property, but property, like all St. Patrick property, is owned solely by the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Thus, we are required to use their brokers. We hope that explains why a local name is not on the for sale sign. Extraordinary Jubilee Of Mercy December 8,2015-November 20, 2016 Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Ma/hew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: If you knew the gift of God! You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

Join us for our January Disciples' Night, on Thursday, January 7 at 5:45 p.m. at Church of the Resurrection in Lansing. We'll have praise & worship, Mass, dinner & drinks and the live-streamed talk. We're a community of young adults -- single or married and in any vocation -- seeking to be formed as intentional disciples of Jesus Christ. Child care is available from 7 to 9 p.m., so bring your children! The i.d. stands for "intentional disciples" and 9:16 refers to 1 Corinthians 9:16: "For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!" Please find our event on the Facebook group "i.d. 916 Lansing" or RSVP to id916lansing@gmail.com. For more information, visit www.id916.com.
