Welcome and Announcements The Second Sunday after Pentecost June 3, 2018 8:00am Hymn of Invocation: O Day of Rest and Gladness LSB 906 Confession and Absolution Stand The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their baptism. P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P Since we are gathered to hear God s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. 2

Kyrie Gloria in Excelsis Salutation and Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Let us pray. Eternal God, Your Son Jesus Christ is our true Sabbath rest. Help us to keep each day holy by 3

receiving His Word of comfort that we may find our rest in Him, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. Sit Service of the Word Old Testament Reading Deuteronomy 5:12 15 12 Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Psalm Psalm 81:1 10 (antiphon: v. 13) P Oh, that my people would listen to me, C that Israel would walk in my ways! P Sing aloud to God our strength; C shout for joy to the God of Jacob! P Raise a song; sound the tambourine, C the sweet lyre with the harp. P Blow the trumpet at the new moon, C at the full moon, on our feast day. P For it is a statute for Israel, C a just decree of the God of Jacob. P He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. C I hear a language I had not known: P I relieved your shoulder of the burden; C your hands were freed from the basket. P In distress you called, and I delivered you; C I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. P Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! 4

C O Israel, if you would but listen to me! P There shall be no strange god among you; C you shall not bow down to a foreign god. P I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. C Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. ALL: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. P Oh, that my people would listen to me, C that Israel would walk in my ways! Epistle 2 Corinthians 4:5 12 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus sake. 6 For God, who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So death is at work in us, but life in you. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Stand Alleluia and Verse 5

Holy Gospel Mark 2:23 28 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the second chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath 23 One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. 24 And the Pharisees were saying to him, Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath? 25 And he said to them, Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: 26 how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him? 27 And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. Nicene Creed C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven 6

and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen. Sit Hymn of the Day: Lord, This Day We ve Come to Worship LSB 911 Sermon Stand Prayer of the Church Sit Offering Service of the Sacrament Stand P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. 7

Sanctus P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give Him thanks and praise. P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, for the countless blessings You so freely bestow on us and all creation. Above all, we give thanks for Your boundless love shown to us when You sent Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into our flesh and laid on Him our sin, giving Him into death that we might not die eternally. Because He is now risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity, all who believe in Him will overcome sin and death and will rise again to new life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: P Blessed are You, O Lord our God, king of all creation, for You have had mercy on us and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. In Your righteous judgment You condemned the sin of Adam and Eve, who ate the forbidden fruit, and You justly barred them and all their children from the tree of life. Yet, in Your great mercy, You promised salvation by a second Adam, Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, and made His cross a life-giving tree for all who trust in Him. 8

We give You thanks for the redemption You have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may faithfully eat and drink of the fruits of His cross and receive the blessings of forgiveness, life, and salvation that come to us in His body and blood. Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us: Lord's Prayer C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. The Words of Our Lord Pax Domini P The peace of the Lord be with you always. C Amen. Agnus Dei 9

Post-Communion Collect A Let us pray. A We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You that of Your mercy You would strengthen us through the same in faith toward You and in fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. Benedicamus and Benediction A Let us bless the Lord. C Thanks be to God. P The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. Christ Jesus Is the Sabbath Rest that Remains for the People of God Forevermore The Lord brought the sons of Israel out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, in order to give them rest (Deut. 5:15). When He commanded them to observe the Sabbath day, therefore, it meant not doing any work but resting in His works (Deut. 5:12, 14). So has the same Lord, Jesus Christ, come in the flesh to fulfill the Law and to become our Sabbath Rest. As David entered the house of God, and not only ate the bread of the Presence but also gave it to those who were with him (Mark 2:26), the Lord Jesus entered the Holy of Holies as our great High Priest, in order to feed us with His flesh as the true bread of the Presence of God. As lord even of the Sabbath, He works to do good, to heal and to save life (Mark 2:28; 3:2, 4). He brings us out of sin and death and gives us rest in His own crucified and risen body. Though it is given in jars of clay, the life of Jesus is thereby manifested in our bodies (2 Cor. 4:7 11). Today s Radio Broadcast is sponsored by Sandra Busche in memory of her husband, Dick Busche. We thank her for her generosity. We have openings in July and August. If you would like to sponsor a broadcast please complete a form and turn it in. The cost of a full broadcast is now $90. Forms are available in the church office. The radio transmission enables our shut-ins, as well as others in our community to hear and participate in our worship. The service airs on WVAL 800 on the AM dial, at 8:00am, and live on the internet at www.800wval.com. Sunday Morning Fellowship In June our hosts are John and Raquel Alstrup. Members who have last names beginning with the letters L are asked to bring treats for our fellowship time. If you can help, please sign up on the bulletin board. Please remember in your prayers this week: Rick Iees (son of Shirley), Betty Winczewski, Jessica Raveling, Judy Heintze, Sophia & Raegan Hackett, Joe Poepping, Caroline Hoagland & Pam Hadley undergoing medical care and following surgery. Jim Bump, Janine Lutgen (sister of Mona Hanson) and Sandy Duffy as they continue their cancer treatment and care. The Military Biblestick collection for this May was $2100! And in the month of May all donations were doubled, so it comes to a total of $4200. Bless you for caring about our military service people in this important way. There are several individual cemetery plots for sale. Please call Delores Volkers for details. 320-252-2101 MITE WALK The Minnesota North Lutheran Women s Missionary League will convene for District Convetnion at Bemidfi MN, from June 18-20. Sandy Machula will serve as our Trinity Delelgate to the gathering, and she will participate in the Mite Walk event. Pleadges and checks from the congregation will be accepted gratefully. Checks should be written to LWML MN NORTH DISTRICT. A table will be set up in the narthex for this between services today and June 10th. 13

This increase will take place on July 1, 2018. NOTE: You must be an LCMS member to purchase grave spaces at our cemetery in Sauk Rapids. All single and multiple spaces will be sold in chronological order. Sincerely, Tom Machula - Chairman, Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Assn. 320-252-9904 GOOD SHEPHERD TOURS There are still a couple openings! Amen You may watch a live video of our Town Hall Meeting (THM) of May 16, 2018 on Facebook's Trinity Lutheran Church-Sauk Rapids page. Please pick up a form on the info desk and fill one out for each family member, and return to either the church office or a member of the leadership team by Wednesday, June 13th. Attention all involved in a group, ministry, etc. at Trinity: Please email a synopsis of your group to (office@trinitysr.org) covering group name/title, who, what, where, why, how and leader name(s), email and phone number. We are wanting to get this information archived and available to all at Trinity. One of the results of our THM was that we all really lacked knowledge of several groups in our own church. We want to know more about them. One of the common themes is that we have most of the same people spearheading most of the activities, groups and such at church. WE NEED MORE INVOLVEMENT! We also discussed how to get more involvement as this develops a lot through relationship-building. We are in need of more relationship-building and/or social activities through Trinity that involve everyone (seniors, youth of all ages, parents, singles, couples, empty-nesters, grandparents...). Being that we have already established a social foundation through Wednesday nights with God's Grub, Advent and Lenten suppers, confirmation and music we've decided that we need to build off of this in a bold way! We are hoping to have these bloomed ideas in motion by this-coming fall. With that said, we (ALL of us) need to roll up our sleeves and put in some elbow grease over the summer. Our next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, June 13th at 6:00 in the fellowship hall. Having said this, we need YOU there and your KIDS!!! Please make a 14

strong effort to attend and if you have children, bring them as well. Your input is extremely wanted by all who want to grow in Christ. In the meantime: Adults, please start engaging with our youth (other than your own). Strike up a conversation... ask them what school they attend, what grade they're in. Invest in them a little by asking them to join us for bible study, cooking in the kitchen, cleaning, setting up, greeting, handing out bulletins, etc. Members, we need to engage more with visitors, new members and those who may be struggling. Please make a strong effort each week by stepping a bit outside your box to say "hi" and introduce yourself to someone you don't know yet. Mark your calendars for the evening of Wednesday, June 13th at 6:00 for our THM #2, the evening of July 4th. We will be having a get-together in the parking lot before the fireworks. Also, for the evening of Wednesday, July 11 th - 5:00 supper, 6:00 outdoor service and 7:30 bonfire. Women's Bible Study (evening group): Open to all ages. Our goal is to build relationships while growing in our knowledge of God's Word. We meet once per month and try to keep this meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 6-7:30pm, although, this sometimes changes dependent on other church events. Contact Person: Jenny Sprengeler, 320-309-5952 or email jsprengeler@gmail.com Adult Lutherans Organized for Action Seniors, join ALOA for a time of learning, reflecting and connecting with others Sept. 24-28 at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch near Stewartville, MN. See the kiosk in the Narthex for details and registration forms. Registrations due by August 24. WE WELCOME FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN We are glad you are here! If there is a time during the Worship Service that you feel your child (or you) needs a time out, please feel free to leave the service. If you leave the service you can go to the lobby or use the large conference room across from the church office. The conference room has speakers and one-way glass so you can still participate in Worship. During the 9:30am worship service the nursery is also available for 0-3 years old. It is not staffed but you are welcome to stay in the room with your child. It is the first classroom on the left as you enter the Preschool parent lounge area. There are also speakers in the nursery so you can listen to the service. Activity bags for young children to use are in the plastic tub outside the church office. 15
