Reading Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost July 31, 2016 9:15 and 10:45 "Most of the strategies for growth in the Christian life amount to stapling live roses on a dead bush." Paul David Tripp "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2 Gathering Music Chandler Hardy Mighty Fortress Medley...Traditional Greeting Song of Celebration p. 98 To God Be the Glory...Doane To God be the glory great things He has done So loved He the world that He gave us His Son, Who yielded His life an atonement for sin And opened the life gate that all may go in Chorus: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Let the people rejoice O come to the Father through Jesus the Son And give Him the glory great things He has done O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood To every believer the promise of God The vilest offender who truly believes That moment from Jesus a pardon receives [Chorus] Great things He has taught us, great things He has done And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son But purer and higher and greater will be Our wonder our transport when Jesus we see. [Chorus] Prayer Father, the world has set before us a number of opportunities and on a daily basis we set a course for our actions. Who am I to be? In whose image will I be shaped? The temptation is strong to follow the ways of the world, allowing its standards to become our own. But Lord, in your love for each of us you set us on a new path toward wholeness, toward joy, and toward peace in the depths of our hearts.

Make us quick to set aside the actions and emotions that divide us from one another and from you. May our lives be marked by joy not anger, by love not lust, by generous hearts not a spirit of greed. May the words we speak be full of truth and serve to build one another up rather than cripple and destroy. Through your son you have made us to be a holy people, set apart for your glory and your purposes in the world. Our hope is that we honor you as we live our lives as ambassadors of your Kingdom.
