The main aim of this reading is that God s glory is revealed and that we see that He is the Light of the World (John 9:5). Thus, Christ heals the blind man to glorify God (John 9:2-3). The blind man is a symbol of humanity who are blind to Christ and are in need of illumination from Christ, and this is why Christ says, I am the Light of the World in John 9:5. The clay and saliva are a reminder that all of humanity was made from the dust of the ground (Genesis 1:26), and that Christ wishes to restore Cont d on page 8 mankind to a new state. Happy Mother's Day! З Днем Матері!

To all who have said a loving Yes to life and earned the name Mother Happy Mother's Day! З Днем Матері! Mothers will be celebrated by their families this weekend in special ways. There will be flowers and sweets; phone calls from children who live too far away for a visit; cards and gifts; breakfast in bed or brunch or dinner at a nice restaurant. Keep a place in your prayer this day for all the mothers who will rejoice with their families this weekend. This Mothers' Day, we turn our hearts to Mary, the Mother of God, the Mother of Jesus and Mother of us all: Christ's sisters and brothers. With a mother's care she raised her Son and lived the joys and the grief that only a mother's heart can know. Whatever our spirits on this Mothers' Day weekend, the Mother of Jesus embraces us all, so let us pray... Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

However, it was my paternal grandmother, in particular, who influenced my journey of faith. She was a woman who explained to us, who talked to us about Jesus, who taught us the Catechism. I always remember that on the evening of Good Friday, she would take us to the candlelight procession, and at the end of this procession, the dead Christ would arrive, and our grandmother would make us the children- kneel down, and she would say to us, Look, he is dead, but tomorrow he will rise. This was how I received my first Christian proclamation, from this very woman, from my grandmother! This is really beautiful! The first proclamation at home, in the family! And this makes me think of the love of so many mothers and grandmothers in the transmission of faith. They are the ones who pass on the faith. This used to happen in the early Church too, for St Paul said to Timothy, I am reminded of the faith of your mother and of your grandmother (cf 2 Timothy 1:5). All the mothers and all the grandmothers who are here should think about this: passing on the faith! Because God sets beside us people who help us on our journey of faith. We do not find our faith in the abstract, no! It is always a person preaching who tells us who Jesus is, who communicates faith to us and gives us the first proclamation. And this is how I received my first experience of faith.

Cont d from page 1 MAN BORN BLIND... The clay and saliva symbolize the restoration of mankind to their new state. The Pool of siloam was quite far from the temple, so the blind man had to walk a long way to wash his eyes in order to see. It shows us the great faith that he had, and that he would indeed see if he did as Jesus said. This Gospel passage also tells us about those who see and those who do not see. It gives us a contrast between the personality of the man born blind (one who sees) and the personality of the pharisees (ones who do not see). The Pharisees question the blind man four separate times about this miracle, in John 9:10, 15, 17, 26. The blind man responds by saying that If this man were not from God, He could do nothing. He is a witness to Christ. The more the blind man is pressed, the stronger he becomes in his witness and faith. The Pharisees tried to discredit the miracle by lying and saying that the man was not blind from birth (John 9:18), by discrediting Jesus and saying that He is not from God because He does not keep the Sabbath (John 9:16), and by saying blasphemy against Christ by calling Him a sinner (John 9:24). We see here that as the story progresses, the man born blind becomes more aware of who Jesus is and develops a stronger faith and belief, whereas the Pharisees criticism of Jesus becomes more sharp and hostile and they lapse into a deeper darkness. The man born blind becomes a real witness for Christ in this story. He witnessed Christ before his neighbours and the Pharisees, and as a result, he was thrown out of the temple (John 9:34). He was a man of faith and courage. His parents, on the other hand, denied Christ out of their fear. They did not witness Christ and put the responsibility on their son. Thus, this Gospel passage is a great lesson on witness and denial of Christ. As in the parable of the prodigal son, the story of the Samaritan woman, and the man at the Pool of Bethesda, Jesus meets the man born blind after his conversion. The man born blind must of been worshiping in the temple right before Jesus met him, because we read that the Pharisees had thrown him out (John 9:34). It is this one on one encounter that Jesus has with the man born blind that parallels the Gospel readings of the two previous Sunday s (the Samaritan woman and the man at the Pool of Bethesda). It is here that Jesus reveals to him that He is the Son of God (John 9:37). This only comes after that man s eyes were opened physically and spiritually, and thus he was now ready for spiritual illumination. The man born blind says, Who is He Lord, that I may believe in Him (John 9:36). The man, now, seeing His divinity, worshiped Him (John 9:38).

Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ - May 14th The Lord Jesus passed forty days on earth after His Resurrection from the dead, appearing continually in various places to His disciples, with whom He also spoke, ate, and drank, thereby further demonstrating His Resurrection. On this Thursday, the fortieth day after Easter, He appeared again in Jerusalem. After He had first spoken to the disciples about many things, He gave them His last commandment, that is, that they go forth and proclaim His Name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. But He also commanded them that for the present, they were not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait there together until they receive power from on high, when the Holy Spirit would come upon them. Saying these things, He led them to the Mount of Olives, and raising His hands, He blessed them; and saying again the words of the Father's blessing, He was parted from them and taken up. Immediately a cloud of light, a proof of His majesty, received Him. Sitting thereon as though on a royal chariot, He was taken up into Heaven, and after a short time was concealed from the sight of the disciples, who remained where they were with their eyes fixed on Him. At this point, two Angels in the form of men in white raiment appeared to them and said, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into Heaven? This same Jesus, Which is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven" (Acts 1:11). These words, in a complete and concise manner, declare what is taught in the Symbol of Faith concerning the Son and Word of God. Therefore, having so fulfilled all His dispensation for us, our Lord Jesus Christ ascended in glory into Heaven, and sat at the right hand of God the Father. As for His sacred disciples, they returned from the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem, rejoicing because Christ had promised to send them the Holy Spirit.

Pope Francis said: Marriage is more than the wedding ceremony, the flowers, the dress, the photos, Vatican City, May 6, 2015 / 10:10 am (CNA/EWTN News). Men and women, courageous enough to carry this treasure in the 'earthen vessels' of our humanity... are an essential resource for the Church, as well as for the whole world! Speaking to the crowds gathered in Saint Peter's Square for his weekly catechesis, the Pope explained that each marriage which demonstrates the beauty of the sacrament enriches the life of the Church. In the same way, it is impoverished when marriage is disfigured in any way. Since the end of last fall, Pope Francis has been centering his Wednesday catechesis on the theme of family as part of the lead-up to the World Day of Families in September, as well as October s Synod of Bishops on the Family. During his May 6 address, the pontiff referenced Saint Paul's Letter to the Ephesians, in which the apostle makes the analogy between the love between spouses and Christ's love for the Church: namely, that a husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the Church, by giving himself completely for her. The spiritual sense of this analogy is revolutionary, yet also simple and attainable for all who trust in God's grace, the Pope said. Regardless of their limitations and sins, men and women are able to live out their marriage, the pontiff said, because it has been inscribed in creation s design by God. The Christian vocation to love, without reserve and without measure, with Christ's grace, is the basis of the free consent which constitutes marriage, he added. Pope Francis also reflected on another characteristic of marriage: the choice to marry in the Lord. This decision, he said, carries with it a missionary dimension, through the willingness to be a channel of God's grace and blessings for everyone. Christian spouses are participants in the Church's mission, the Pope said, insofar as they live for all people, not just for themselves. Pope Francis challenged the faithful to ask themselves whether they as believers and pastors accept the unbreakable bond between Christ and the Church, and the history of marriage and family. Are we prepared to seriously accept this responsibility, which is that every marriage follows the path of love which Christ has with the Church? he asked.

A Big Thank You to All Who Participated In Making the Pancake Breakfast and Baby Shower a Success! Христос Воскрес! I wish to thank everyone who was involved with the Pancake Breakfast and Baby Shower. To Brother Jim and the Kitchen Staff for cooking pancakes and ham and of course the aftermath the clean up. All you Brother Knights did a wonderful job! Brother Glen, good job doing the Master of Ceremony for the event. Brother Lawrence for looking after the tickets and monies. Brother Eugene, Pat and Eileen for looking after the donations and packing. And finally to all who have donated baby items for the shower a heart felt thank you. It was an overwhelming successful event because you took the time to volunteer. As was mentioned in the AGM prologue church volunteerism is the lifeblood of any church and it was certainly exemplified in this event. Unfortunately, I couldn t be there with you because of the Knights of Columbus State Convention taking place. On behalf of my wife Judy and myself, I wish to thank you again for all the work you have done in making the event such a success. God bless you all. Yours in Christ, Brand Knight Zenon Scraba
