Dear Parish Family, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (E.M.E.), often referred to Eucharistic Ministers, assist with the reverent distribution of Holy Communion during Mass when a sufficient number of ordinary ministers (priests, deacons) are not available. The ordinary ministers of the Eucharist are those who are ordained, priests and deacons. The faithful who are Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, E.M.E., must be persons of good qualities of Catholic life, faith and morals. They should strive to deepen their own faith life and devotion to the Eucharist. Provisions can be made available for the distribution of Holy Communion from the cup when there are communion ministers available. Two purposes for the tabernacle are to house the Precious Body of Christ for the members of our Faith Community that are unable to join us in the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass and to encourage veneration of our Lord. The pastoral care of the sick is enhanced as the ministers celebrate the ordinary rite of communion to the sick and home bound. When our loved ones receive the Eucharist it allows them to remain connected to the Church and brings joy to their life. The pastoral visits are set by offering of the Eucharist to our sick and home bound. Please contact the office if you know of someone who should be added to our list to receive communion. If a person can t make it to the front of the church for communion, please mention it to the Hospitality Minsters/Ushers. Only those who distribute communion, (E.M.E.s) are supposed to take communion to those who can t make it on their own, that is part of our role. Please allow us to serve you. Also people should not bring a Pyx up during the Communion line. A Pyx is a container reserved for the Precious Body of Christ; usually: a small round metal receptacle used to carry the Eucharist to the sick. The Pyx should be filled with the Eucharist following Mass. You might ask Why Fr.? Because that is the directions the Church has given for several decades. Sorry if that was not the practice before, but I do want the best for you including our liturgy so let us minister to the sick and celebrate Mass as the Church has asked since the Second Vatican Council. Certainly the role of E.M.E.s is crucial to our ability to nourish the faithful. With the help of the Laity we can administer to more people and provide more sacraments to them. The E.M.E.s help and assist the priest and deacon at the Eucharistic Table. This week go up and thank those who serve as E.M.E.s. If you would like to become a EME, please contact the Parish office and we will meet with you. Fr. Gary Catechist Corner I know this is not something most of you want to hear (especially the kids) but in just 6 short weeks we will be preparing for back to school. In order to help us save on postage, please complete the religious education registration form and return to our parish office in the next couple of weeks, either by mail or drop it in the collection basket. Please include your email address on the registration form. This year, we are going to try to engage more family time discussion about our faith. During the week, the parents will receive an email about a topic to discuss with your children, then when the children come to class, they will share with each other what they have learned at home. It may be about Catholic tradition, why we do what we do, the sacraments, parts of the Mass or some interesting facts about a saint. I believe this can be a fun learning experience for the whole family. God Bless, Martha Time to start thinking about theme baskets for the picnic. We are hoping for some new and different ideas. Maybe a gift card basket from area merchants. Go together with co-workers and get lots of different cards. How about a: sports memorabilia basket? an entertainment basket? maybe a dinner party basket? sports game tickets? Just a few ideas. You can drop your donation off at the parish office. Catholic Charities will sponsor a Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend September 21-22 at Sarto Retreat Center. Engaged Encounter is a weekend retreat with other engaged couples that affords time alone together to plan for sacramental marriage. Trained facilitators lead the program. For more info or to register, call or email Dominic Faraone at 812-423-5456 or dfaraone@evdio.org. **St. Mary s Engaged Couples, please consider attending this weekend. One of our couples just did one of these weekends and really enjoyed it. Help Us Get Ready for September 8, 2013 Picnic Sunday Before long, it will be picnic time and we all know our homemade quilts are a big reason that people come and stay on picnic day. We are lucky enough to have dedicated volunteers who quilt on Mondays and Wednesdays and also in their homes. Would you be willing to get 11 family members, neighbors or friends together to donate $30 a piece to buy material and have a quilt quilted for our picnic? You do not have to quilt or even buy a quilt, we will take care of that. All of your names will be attached to the finished quilt and displayed at the quilt show and picnic day. Call Sherri or Dianne at the parish office, 482-7041, for more information. We will be making phone calls to parishioners who are not currently on the quilt list. If you are currently on a quilt group, send your donation in at any time and mark it quilt donation. St Mary Catholic Church, Ireland IN 3

For this reason, civil society--including the State--is obliged to assure that its customs and laws support it. Most fundamentally, neither the State nor civil society may impinge or in any manner "violate the right to life, from conception to natural death." Rather, the civil society and the State are obliged to "protect and promote it." Diocesan Policy: Report and Inform The Diocese of Evansville has in place a policy that requires that any allegation of child abuse must be reported to civil authorities. If an allegation involves the sexual abuse of a minor by diocesan personnel, the Victims Assistance Coordinator must also be informed. Sexual misconduct violates human dignity and the mission of the church. The spiritual well-being of all victims, their families, and others in the community is of particular concern to the church.
