Transcription:

I m trying to be like Jesus; I m following in His ways. I m trying to love as He did, in all that I do and say. At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice, But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers, I m trying to love my neighbor; I m learning to serve my friends. I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again. I try to remember the lessons He taught. Then the Holy Spirit enters into my thoughts, saying: Love one another as Jesus loves you. Try to show kindness in all that you do. Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought, For these are the things Jesus taught. Words and music: Janice Kapp Perry, b. 1938 1980 by Janice Kapp Perry. Lesson 34: Feed My Sheep, Primary 7: New Testament, 116

Look around the room. Can you see what is different? The sheep you see are scattered. Each of you can help gather the sheep by finding the one with your name on it and bringing it to me. We will talk about the other sheep later in the lesson.

I need a volunteer to answer a few questions. Do you love our Savior, Jesus Christ? Feed His lambs. Do you love our Savior, Jesus Christ? Feed His sheep. Do you love our Savior, Jesus Christ? Feed His sheep.

How did you feel when I kept asking the same question? Peter had a similar experience with Jesus after He was resurrected.

Adapted from a talk by James E. Faust, Them That Honour Me I Will Honour, Ensign, May 2001, 45

After the Resurrection of the Savior, Simon Peter and some of the disciples were at the Sea of Tiberias (Galilee). Simon Peter announced to them that he was going fishing. The disciples agreed to go with him.

They seemed to have forgotten that they were called to be fishers of men. They fished through the night but caught nothing.

In the morning, they saw a man standing on the shore. They didn t realize it was Jesus. He told them to cast their nets on the right side of the ship. The nets became filled with fish.

John realized it was the Savior. Peter jumped from the boat and quickly went to the Savior. The disciples were not far away and dragging the net full of fish. When they came ashore they saw fish being cooked on a fire of coals.

Jesus told them to bring the net full of fish. There were 153 large fish in the net, but it didn t break. The Savior invited them to eat the cooked fish and some bread.

After they had eaten, Jesus asked Simon Peter, Lovest thou Me more than these? Jesus was asking Peter about the fish. Peter had enjoyed being a fisherman for many years.

Peter became a fisher of men when he met the Savior and later became one of the Twelve Apostles. Jesus asked Peter three times, Lovest thou Me more than these?

Peter answered Jesus, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. Jesus then replied, Feed my lambs. Jesus asked Peter the same question again.

Peter s answer was the same. Jesus replied the second time, Feed My sheep. Peter was asked the same question a third time and answered, Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee.

Jesus replied a third time, Feed My sheep. Jesus knew Peter loved Him. Jesus wanted Peter to show his love by sharing and spreading the gospel.

What were Peter and the other disciples doing at the Sea of Tiberias? Let s read John 21:3 What did Jesus tell the Apostles to do when they hadn t caught any fish? Let s read John 21:5 6

Why do you think John realized it was Jesus when the net was full of fish? Let s read John 21:6 7 What did Peter do? Why do you think Peter did this?

What question did Jesus ask Peter? Let s read John 21:15 Why do you think Jesus asked Peter this question three times?

How did Peter feel when Jesus asked him the same question three times? Let s read John 21:17 What were Peter s responsibilities now that Jesus had died and was resurrected?

What does Jesus want His sheep to be fed? The truths of the gospel What had Jesus called His Apostles to do? Let s read Mark 16:15

Jesus had commanded His Apostles to preach the gospel, and He wanted them to continue this work, not go back to fishing.

Peter was now the President of the Church, and it was his responsibility to lead the Church and direct the efforts to spread Jesus gospel.

Do we have shepherds today who feed Jesus sheep? Who are they?

Let s list some Church callings on the chalkboard. Choose one of the callings and tell how that person helps feed the Savior s sheep. Do you have an experience of teachers, friends, or family members who have helped you learn more about the gospel? Enr. Act. 2

I need a volunteer to gather the remaining sheep from the walls and bring them to me. Some of the children whose names are on the sheep may need a shepherd to help feed them the gospel.

How can we be shepherds and feed Jesus sheep? How can we help family members and friends better understand gospel principles? How are we showing our love for Jesus when we help others?

Feed My Sheep What are some ways we can show our love for Jesus by feeding His sheep? Enr. Act. 1

I m going to give each of you a piece of paper and a pencil. Fill in the blank for this question: I will be a good shepherd by. How do you plan to be a good shepherd? Enr. Act. 1

I need someone to choose one of these slips of paper, read it silently, and act out the situation. The other children will guess what the situation is and we will discuss how we could feed Jesus sheep in such a situation. Enr. Act. 3

A good opportunity to help someone become acquainted with or grow in the gospel usually comes when you are his or her friend. What traits do you like in a friend? How can you develop these traits? Enr. Act. 4

How do the following scriptures apply to us today?: Matthew 24:14 Matthew 28:19 20 D&C 4:1 4 D&C 15:6 D&C 31:3 5 Enr. Act. 5

I bear testimony that as members of the Church, we each have the responsibility to help others learn about the gospel and grow closer to Jesus Christ. I am very thankful for being able to share the gospel with each of you.
