2 Introduction I am not saying one must be emotionally healed before God can use them. It may be that the emotional brokenness and surrender that precedes the healing is the real doorway. If you look at Biblical Case Studies and Church History, an embracing of brokenness and a touch from God emotionally and spiritually is almost always followed by an outpouring of His Spirit and Power.

3 Definition: Emotional or Inner Healing is the application of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His healing power to the root memories and/or woundings of our past. It allows us to experience God s grace and mercy at the core of our being, rather than dealing only with surface and/or symptomatic issues.

4 What Makes Emotional Healing Necessary? 1. Just living in a sinful world 2. Wounds inflicted or sin committed by others 3. Our own personal sin

5 Biblical Case Studies Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!" Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." Matthew 16:22-23 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. But when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him." But he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly. Luke 22:61-62

6 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Tiberias. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. "I'm going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We'll go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, "Friends, haven't you any fish?""no," they answered. He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards John 21:1-8

7 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you have just caught." Simon Peter climbed aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." None of the disciples dared ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these? "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you. Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me? "He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." John 21:9-16

8 Jacob the Heel Grabber But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me." The man asked him, "What is your name? "Jacob," he answered. Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome." Jacob said, "Please tell me your name. But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared." Genesis 32:24-30

9 Practical Example: Personal Healing (Rapha 1993)

10 Where do I begin? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the source and origin of wounds/issues (don t navel gaze) Be willing to embrace the pain and experiential stirring of that memory Allow Jesus to speak His truth to you in the midst of that experiential pain Embrace His freedom and your renewed destiny.
