Church for all Throughout Christian history believers have met on the first day of the week, the resurrection day, Sunday! But do you know why churches typically meet mid morning and early evening? Apparently to fit in around milking times when we used to be an agrarian society! These days, for some people (especially families), Sunday mornings are filled with kids activities and Sunday evenings are all about getting ready for school and getting an early night. So, for example, on a Sunday morning more children go to Chester Rugby Club than go to all the churches in the city! In the interests of fitting well into modern life, we are trialling a new kind of service at a new time. It'll be aimed at young families hopefully noisy, chaotic and lots of fun as we worship Jesus! Please pray that it would be well received and make that connection between modern life and living faith. Please consider who you know with young children that you could invite along. And, please consider whether you could volunteer to help out (please let me know). Thanks,

Sunday 1 July - Baptism, Communion and Confirmation 4 (Communion) Those who connect to St. Luke's through the first Wednesday Communion services pray for a depth of faith and a sense of connection to the whole of what we, as a church, are doing; Thank God for 70 years of our NHS, which is officially celebrated on 5 th July please also remember those in the many other parts of the world with no universal health care and who are currently struggling with their health because they can't afford treatment; For Lauren, who we support in her work in a care centre in South Africa. Pray for her as she looks after the children in her care, as she challenges culture ideas about the role of women in the elder boys' minds and that they would see good male role models at church; St. Luke's are hosting our deanery chapter on Thursday evening pray that the local Church of England churches would together be holding out the hope of the Gospel in our city; Pray your way around the parish, for those living on Chapel Lane, Dale Street, Cherry Gardens and Filkins Lane. Sunday 8 July - Baptisms Pray for those bringing children for baptism today that for parents, godparents and children a journey of faith would be started that revolutionises their lives for the good in Jesus' name; For the PCC, who meet this week, especially for discussions about the community cafe and the future of church youth work; For The Weekend, a weekend of worship, prayer, mission and service for young people across Chester that young people would be inspired by what they can achieve when inspired by the Lord! Please pray for everyone from our church in work that integrity of lifestyle and taking the opportunities the Lord gives to speak into justice and faith situations would characterise their working lives; Pray your way around the parish, for those living in Vicars Cross Court, Marlborough Court and Boughton Hall.

Sunday 15 July New Identity 1 (Adopted) Tomorrow is the last youth club meeting before it closes for the summer please pray for those young people who are asking the deep questions of life, that they would find the answers they are looking for in Jesus Christ; This afternoon is our first Kids Alive service please pray that many local young families would come along, sense the presence of the Lord and be hungry for more; Pray for our new sermon series looking, from Ephesians, at our new identity when we become believers pray for all those struggling with identity and questioning who they are and why they are here... may they see how much God loves them and what a wonderful future he has for them; Today is the football world cup final (no doubt many will breathe a sigh of relief!) - pray that, as passions run high and some become winners and others losers, we would keep the perspective of Ecclesiastes that without God these things are meaningless... and, of course, that with God we are all essentially winners! Pray your way around the parish, for those living on Campion Close, Celandine Close, Caldy Valley Road, Coltsfoot Close and Gorse Way. Sunday 22 July New Identity 2 (A holy temple) The second of our Kids Alive trial services that the children who come would be inspired as they worship the God who loves them! For the children's holiday club that runs this Wednesday to Friday for leaders, helpers, children and parents to all take a step forward in their journeys of faith as they see God at work in their lives; The school summer holidays start this week pray for rest, relaxation and safe travels for those going away; This week the cafe will close for the holiday club (and maybe for the summer) pray about the future of this ministry; Pray your way around the parish, for those living on Private Walk, Heather Court and Kingslea House.

Sunday 29 July New Identity 3 (Filled with God) Hannah, who will finish as our youth worker in mid-august. Pray for her future plans to join a ministry team in Mozambique... and please pray for the youth that she will be taking to Soul Survivor this week; Please pray for the charity Tearfund, that we support as a church please pray for the thousands of people receiving aid and development assistance because of their work. Pray for the many churches that facilitate their worldwide work, that we would be encouraged to be a part of this work amongst the world's poorest; Tomorrow the church calendar commemorates William Wilberforce, the abolitionist politician pray for today's Christian MP's, to bring a bold, faithful perspective to the leadership of our nation; Take a moment to listen to God: who needs a word of encouragement, who do you need to pray for, who needs to hear about faith? Pray your way around the parish, for those living on Regents Close, Coppin Close and Clarence Avenue. Pastoral Visiting If you, or someone you know is unable for whatever reason to come along and be involved in the regular life of the church (short or long term ill health or just finding church difficult for other reasons) and they would value a visit from one of our pastoral team or would like to be brought Holy Communion, please ask them to contact Olive Somerville or Rev Chris Blunt (01244 460058 / chrisblunt.jas@gmail.com).
