GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Gentlemen, 2015 is over, Happy New Year. I'm sure that 2016 will be another productive year for us. I am deeply in all of your debt for helping out this year as well as putting up with me. This past month was a blur, what with the Knights before Christmas, the Keep Christ in Christmas display, our annual Council/Assembly Christmas Party where we, along with Mills and Mills, hosted five Military families. On that note, we gave the families $600 apiece this year and they were honestly surprised and greatly appreciative. Upcoming events for January are as follows: The SW KofC Regional Meeting will be at Columbian Hall on January 3rd. I have sent all the details for those who are supposed to attend. There will be a planning meeting for the 2017 State Convention on January 11th at Hallen Hall at 7 PM upstairs in rooms 2&3. Volunteers should contact myself or DD Darren Johnson. The BIG event for this month is The Annual Mass and March for Life beginning at St. Martin s Marcus Pavilion Jan.19th. See the flyer on page 12in this month s newsletter for details. As always Ron DeGroot will need assistance with car parking before the mass and Sam Pellegrino will need help to set up and serve lunch at Sacred Heart after the march. This year we will actually be able to participate in the Mass with the Color Corp, so I would hope to get some extra help from Brother Knights who are not in Regalia; many of the gentlemen who volunteer to do the above mentioned tasks are Color Corp Members. Get the Hint? Lastly, we will be hosting a 3rd Degree Exemplification on January 30th at Columbian Hall. This is a perfect opportunity to advance to the 3rd Degree without having to travel. Start time for degree is 12:30 PM. Respectfully, Michael R. Dear Faithful Brother Knights FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE December has been a very busy month for everyone with many Knights participating in more than one event or project. I would like to thank brother Jeff Schilter, from Schilter Farms, for donating Christmas trees for both our Keep Christ in Christmas and our Knights before Christmas events. I delivered trees with Faithful Captain Jack Winslow, and Brother Mike Hayes. Thanks to all those who helped set up the trees and sort the gifts. Brother Knights and their wives provided and served a dinner at the Drexel House on December 16 th. Thanks to all those who turned out for the Assembly and Council Christmas party. It was well attended and folks had a great time. The schola cantorum sounded magnificent with the Christmas songs. Thanks for providing the delicious main course to brother Sam Pellegrino. Five military families were presented with $600 each. $1,500 came from Mills and Mills, $1,000 came from the Assembly, and $500 from the Council. By the time you read this, we will already have had our Second Degree and I hope a lot of you 1 st degree Brothers attended. We will have a Third Degree Exemplification on January 30 th at Columbian Hall. This will be very convenient because it isn t usually at our hall. The annual Mass for Life & March for Life will take place January 19 th with a Mass at St. Martin s Pavilion. This year Color Corps members will attend. There will be a complimentary lunch at Hallen Hall (Sacred Heart) following Mass. There will be a Men s Day of Recollection, February 13, at the Holy Theophany Monastery and our first quarter Corporate Communion will most likely be February 14, with Mass at the Abbey Church at St. Martin s. Details to follow for these events. Starting in January, the 4 th Degree Officers will be meeting on the third Thursday, instead of the second Thursday. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! A NEW DOCUMENTARY FILM FROM THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS The most important event in the evangelization of the New World occurred in December 1531. Over the course of four days, the Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, appeared to an indigenous convert named Juan Diego. As a result of this encounter, and the image miraculously imprinted on Juan Diego s tilma (cloak), nine million Native Americans embraced the Catholic faith, and the Americas began its transformation into the Catholic hemisphere. Our Lady of Guadalupe s message of love had replaced the institutionalized violence of the Aztec culture and built a bridge between two worlds. Guadalupe: The Miracle and the Message, narrated by famed actor Jim Caviezel, traces the history of this transformative event from the 16th century to the present. Featuring interviews with leading theologians, historians and experts on the scientific inquiries into the miraculous image this gripping film explores both the inexplicable mysteries behind the image, and the continued relevance of the Guadalupe apparition to the modern world. If you missed it on TV a DVD copy has been purchased. To borrow please call Ed Sauley at 360-480- 9329. It may be shown to groups or just to families. Page -10-

Plan for this Tax Day and into the Future April 15 (tax day) is right around the corner. It s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehicle. Or perhaps someone has tried to convince you to open an account, touting the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason. Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax return. And, our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does retirement income that you cannot outlive guaranteed sound to you? Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember absolute safety of principal) really will provide you with peace of mind. A KofC Agent is happy to meet with you at your convenience and in your home to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance, disability income and long-term care insurance plans.
