Taylor I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever. WCONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE...LASST UNS ERFREUEN Praise God from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below: Alleluia, alleluia! Praise Him above, ye heav nly host, praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! WPRAYER OF ADORATION

CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION Celebrating His Grace Almighty God, Who created us and all things for Your glory, we confess that we at times have failed to worship and obey You as Creator: we have acted as though we are responsible to no one but ourselves; we have scheduled our days and planned our finances to suit only our own purposes and pleasures; we have been quick to boast about our accomplishments rather than about the wonders of Your grace and glory. Please forgive our hard-heartedness and our wrong-headedness. We are truly sorry, and we humbly repent. Restore us that we may delight in You and in Your mighty works and join all creation in praising Your excellent Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF DIVINE PARDON WHYMN OF GRATITUDE: No. 498 Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners!... HYFRYDOL stanzas 1, 3 and 5 PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS.................. A Mitchell Moore OFFERTORY ANTHEM: The Heavens are Telling...Franz J. Haydn The heavens are telling the glory of God, The wonder of His work displays the firmament; Today that is coming speaks it the day, The night that is gone to following night. In all the lands resounds the word, Never unperceived, ever understood. The Chancel Choir Terri Theil, Jerry Bowman, Brett Trimble, soloists Gabriel C. Statom, Director of Music WCONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE...AURELIA The heav ns declare Thy glory, the firmament Thy pow r, Day unto day the story repeats from hour to hour; Night unto night replying, proclaims in ev ry land, O Lord, with voice undying, the wonders of Thy hand. WPRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND DEDICATION WGREETINGS PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION AND THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hearing His Word GOSPEL READING.................................................Mark 2:1-13 (page 837 in pew Bible) All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field; The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever. Older children should also be encouraged to come to church prepared to stay in their pew throughout the service. One of our pastors will be available after the service to pray for you or to offer helpful direction regarding your spiritual life. He will be in the Gathering Room, which is the first room on your left as you exit the southwest door of the Sanctuary (closest to the pulpit). SERMON NOTES February 12, 2012

Sunday Night Worship - 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall We gather each Sunday evening for an informal service of prayer, praise and teaching from God s Word. Our morning and evening services frame our weekly Lord s Day worship. We invite you to worship with us. World Missions Conference The World Missions Conference weekend is an annual event that seeks to inform our members about the Gospel work of our missionaries around the world. At this year s conference (February 23-26), we welcome keynote speaker Tim Keller, who has a passion for planting churches in the global cities of the world. A full schedule of events is available at www.2pc.org/ wmc. We anticipate tickets for the Friday night banquet to sell out fast, so buy early! Tickets are available today online, in The Bookmark Bookstore, and in the hallway outside the Sanctuary. Welcome! If you are visiting with us today, we welcome you to Second Presbyterian. Please sign our Friendship Pad, which will be passed during the Greetings time of the service. Our Congregational Communities (CCs), also known as Sunday School classes, offer a wide variety of options appealing to various age groups and stages of life. Visiting a CC is the best way to get to know others and become involved. CCs meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. For a full listing of classes, visit www.2pc.org/cc. Weekly Focus on Missions World Missions: Valery and Janna Morozov serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators in St. Petersburg, Russia. Their goal is to prepare and send workers to the most forgotten and hidden people groups in the world. Wycliffe Russia has sent twenty missionaries who are working on eighteen different Bible translation projects. Please pray for this team of dispersed missionaries, for the new staff candidates who will be joining them this year, and for plans for an upcoming sabbatical this fall. Mission Memphis: Victims to Victory reports that 2011 was one of the most financially turbulent years they ve had, but they are praising God for His faithfulness as they saw new streams of revenue come in, allowing them to stay in ministry, increase their volunteer base, and establish partnerships with more churches and local businesses. They were especially encouraged at their annual Candlelight Vigil, which served more clients and involved more volunteers than ever before how wonderful and blessed is the favor of the Lord upon of His people!! Officer Nomination Requests The Nominations Committee is requesting names from the congregation for persons they recommend to serve as elders or deacons for the term beginning January 2013. Please complete the appropriate card found in the pew racks with your suggestion and place it in the offering plate, or mail it to the Church Office. The deadline for receiving suggestions is February 29, 2012. This Week/Coming Soon Ash Wednesday: We will meet at noon in the Chapel on February 22 for a reflective communion service to begin the Lenten season. CityServe Explorers: We will visit Memphis Athletic Ministries February 29. Memphis Athletic Ministries (MAM) is involved with 14 neighborhood youth centers across the city to engage and mentor at-risk youth. Through organized sports, they share and model Christ to boys and girls in our city from ages 6-18. We will visit two sites to see the children in action, catch the vision and hear how we can become involved. The van will leave the west parking lot at 3:30 pm and return at 5:30 pm. For a spot on the van, please e-mail rachel.brannigan@2pc.org or call 454-0034. Good Reading Dinner Group: The reading group is back with exciting book reviews for the winter season! Please join us in C310 to hear book reviews from 5:15-6:05 p.m. on February 15, 22, and 29; and March 7. On Wednesday, February 15, Kari Leatherman will review Evidence Not Seen by Darlene Deibler Rose.
