Dear Members, We are very excited to present our 2018 Young Israel of Woodmere Summer Bais Medrash programs. As you will see, this very dynamic and comprehensive initiative offers a wide array of learning opportunities which touch the many different segments of our wonderful shul and community. Whether young or old, advanced or beginner, our Summer BMP program provides a meaningful Torah summer experience for the entire family. You will undoubtedly notice that we have added a number of new and exciting programs in addition to our previously successful summer classes. The goal of our substantive and varied selection of programs is to engage all members of our shul,ensuring significant participation. More than a place to daven, our Young Israel of Woodmere is a resource for increased spiritual inspiration and personal advancement in Torah studies. Neufeld is the Director of Education at the Allegra Franco School of Educational Leadership and Director of Pedagogy for the Sephardic Rabbinical College. In addition, she is the founding program director of the Herzog College (Alon Shvut) collaborative program for training Tanakh teachers in Chutz La Aretz. She earned her BA and Masters from Queens College in communications, with a minor in education. She went on to earn her second Masters from Pace University in School Administration and Supervision. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral program, researching factors affecting young women s post-secondary educational and career choices. Mrs. Neufeld has over 40 years of teaching experience in both yeshivot and public schools and teaches adult education classes in several locations in the New York area. In May 2012, the Covenant Foundation announced that Mrs. Neufeld was a recipient of the prestigious Excellence in Education Award, which was presented at a national event in November 2012.

for Men & Women YOUNG ISRAEL OF WOODMERE The Formation of the Talmud Bavli: Historical, Literary and Theological Dimensions Rabbi Dr. Ari Bergman Monday Evenings @ 9:00 PM followed by Maariv July 2 July 16 July 30 August 13 August 27 Talmud Bavli is the most fundamental work of Torah Shebe al Peh, and the most widely learned sefer throughout the generations. Its history, authors and editors, as well as how it came to be or how it was formed is, however, totally obscure. Unlike the Mishnah whose editor, process and history was clearly described, the Talmud on the other hand remained an unknown. This seminar series will explore the various theories about the formation of Talmud Bavli. We will analyze these theories through historical and literary criticism and develop a mystical understanding of the structure of the bavli.

Tisha B av Program Motzei Shabbos, July 21 Rabbi Shay Schachter will learn through the Churban Gemaros in Maseches Gittin immediately following the reading of Eicha. The shiur will meet in the Nusach Sfard House and is open to men and women. Sunday Morning, July 22: 5:45 & 8:00am followed by Kinos led by Rabbi Axelrod in the Joseph K. Miller Main Shul. There will, also, be a Vasikin Minyan in the second floor Hillel Pinewski Junior Congregation Room On Tisha B'Av morning, there will be a minyan for Shacharis at 8:00am with a full recital of Kinos, led by Rabbi Schachter and Rabbi Wolf, which will focus on a slower reading of kinnos with explanatory comments. The minyan will take place in the College Minyan House located on Peninsula Blvd. This program is open to men and women. Mrs. Michal Horowitz will give a special shiur for women at 1:30pm on Tisha B'Av in the Leon Mayer Beis Medrash At 6:30pm in the Leon Mayer Bais Medrash, there will be a Tisha B'Av Kumzitz - an inspiring program of story and song for men and women led by Rabbi Axelrod & Yakov Hagler. On Tisha B'Av day, our shul will also be offering a full program of videos and shiurim to make our commemoration of Tisha B'Av meaningful. This information will be sent shortly in a separate email.
