The 2018 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal is underway with an in-pew commitment process taking place this weekend. This is not a special collection; rather, the CCAA represents the chance for all Catholics to make a significant pledge, payable in installments, to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, in order to support its mission of a society that stands united in its support of the least among us. Many parishioners have received a letter from Bishop Perez requesting their support. If you have not received this letter, please respond to the in-pew commitment process today! If you have received the mailing, please respond to it. There is a box on the in-pew envelope to indicate that you have responded by mail. Your Mercy: Transforming Lives and Communities. Your support of the 2018 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal helps us to carry out the mission that Jesus entrusted to us: I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of min, you did for me. Please be generous!

St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Four Sunday, February 11, 2018 A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR Lent begins with an invitation from God: "Come back to me, with all your heart" (see Joel 2:12). Our Lenten journey is our response to God's invitation. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, wants us to experience his healing, reconciling, transformative love, especially in this season. As most of you know, we have a parish subscription to FORMED, which can be described as a type of Netflix for Catholics. We will be using a five-session video series called FORGIVEN, which offers informative and inspirational insights into experiencing the Lord's mercy, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). Each video is approximately 30 minutes long. We will be showing them in church between our Sunday Masses (9:40 am - 10:15 am). You can also view them at home by following the directions to the right of this note. The first three sessions will be viewed before the special Evening of Confession held throughout the diocese in every parish on February 28 between 5 pm - 8 pm. We also invite you to sign up for receiving brief daily emails throughout Lent from Matthew Kelly, which will include inspirational videos, practical tips for your everyday life, and encouraging stories. He will draw upon some of the insights from his book you received at Christmas, Perfectly Yourself: Discovering God's Dream for You. You do not need to have read the book in order to benefit from these daily reflections. Please sign up at DynamicCatholic.com/40 Days. Please review the calendar insert in this bulletin to see what other experiences are being offered to help each of us have a "BEST LENT EVER". You will receive additional information later about the Faith Alive retreat on March 9-10. Please schedule yourself to participate in another uplifting parish mission in church the evenings of Sunday, March 18, through Tuesday, March 20, 7 pm - 8:15 pm. This mission will have different presentations from last year's, which over 200 people attended. Look for more details in the coming weeks. These spiritual growth opportunities were initiated, in large part, from the fall parish survey which you completed, and from the work of our various parish Commissions created by the Parish Pastoral Council. Thanks for your input. ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14 LENTEN REMINDERS FAST and ABSTINENCE Our observance of Lent begins this week on Ash Wednesday, February 14, a day of FAST AND ABSTINENCE FOR CATHOLICS. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of universal fast and abstinence. The norms of fasting are obligatory from age 18 through 59. One is permitted one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to the one full meal. The norms of abstinence from meat are binding upon all Catholics age 14 onwards. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the paschal fast to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection. FORMED Access to FORMED is provided to each SVDP Parishioner. To access FORMED: 1. Go to your Internet browser. 2. Go to FORMED.org. 3. In the middle of the page click on Register. 4. New page appears: enter 3PJQTF and your email; then click GO. 5. New page appears. Follow the prompts. After reading/accepting the terms/conditions, click SUBMIT at the bottom of the page. 6. For future access, click the light blue LOGIN in the upper right-hand corner and follow the prompts. Once you have logged in, please enter Forgiven into the search bar and click on Sessions 1 5. Always remain close to the Catholic Church, because it alone can give you true peace, since it alone possesses Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, the true Prince of Peace." --St. Padre Pio
