Second Sunday of Advent Parish News UNWRAPPING CHRISTMAS Small Groups are meeting throughout Advent to take advantage of this liturgical season and its purpose of preparing our hearts for Christ s coming, both at the Incarnation, and His Second Coming at the end of the age. Week 1: Christmas is the season of giving. As we unwrap Christmas, the core message is that because God is a giver, we are also called to be givers. As we know from John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son - the greatest gift ever given! Since we are made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to be givers too. Let us reflect on how we can grow in generosity: Do we recognize that all of our resources are pure gift from God? How can we become more willing to be generous and to give more than is strictly required or necessary? How can we give freely, with no expectation of something in return? What are you being called to give during this Advent season in order to become more like our heavenly Father? Is it time? Is it your heart? Is it some of your possessions? Thank you for helping those in need We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of our Friendship Meal at La Sagrada Familia on Nov. 11th. Because of you, we were able to serve a meal to more than 120 people. The day was filled with fellowship while preparing the meal in the Holy Martyrs kitchen and then socializing with the guests at La Sagrada Familia over dinner. If you would like to be updated on future Friendship Meal ministry efforts, please contact Nathan Klettlinger (nklettlinger@gmail.com) to be included on the email list. Save the date for our Easter -themed Friendship Meal on March 10th! Oplatki is now available in the church office during the week and in the Sacristy after Masses. Daily scripture readings for this week can be obtained on the USCCB website, where you can sign up to have readings emailed to you. You can also download one of these apps on your phone: Laudate or The New Missal Church Office hours: Monday - Friday: 9:00 am - 12:15 pm, 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm 330-722-6633

Holy Martyrs Church December 10, 2017 Medina, Ohio Join Us For Discovering Christ Parish News The next session of Discovering Christ begins Tuesday, January 9, 2018! Start the new year off right! Join us as we gather to share a delicious dinner, listen to a dynamic teaching and join in a small group discussion to talk about what you ve heard, ask the questions you ve always wanted to ask and learn from others. We will explore topics that will not only touch upon the basics of the Catholic faith through the initial proclamation of the Gospel but also allow us to gain more insight into the meaning of life! Discovering Christ is an eight-week experience held at Holy Martyrs Church. It includes a one-day retreat on Saturday, Feb. 17. Childcare is provided for the evening sessions. Sessions are on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 8:30 pm on Jan. 9, 16, 23, and 30 and Feb. 6, 20 and 27. Sign up on our website! Helping Women in the Name of Christ A new outreach by the women of Holy Martyrs involves working with our sister parish, La Sagrada Familia, to provide a meal once a month during a support meeting for women who are survivors of domestic violence. You can help by providing part of a light meal, interacting with the women or babysitting during their meeting. The groups are not large, but the impact of your help will be enormous. A couple of hours a month can help women rebuild their lives. This is part of our expanding parish outreach to link our parishioners to those in need. Please contact Diane Bruce at dbruce@holymartyrs.net if you would like to help. December LifeTeen Schedule Dec 10 - Mary: Eternal Crown Dec 17 - Christmas Social! Come join us, Sunday Nights! Red Stocking Collection A collection will be taken during the weekends of Dec. 9/10 and 16/17 to help our neighbors in need. For many years, the Red Stocking has been a symbol for the Ministry of Assistance to ask parishioners for funds to help the poor during the winter months ahead. Although we may do a bit more to help our parishioners, we do not turn our back on anyone else within Medina County who may need help. Christ reminds us that the poor will always be with us, but it is in how we respond to the poor that makes us true Christians.
