10 Beautiful Lines 1). Prayer is not a spare wheel that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a steering wheel that directs the right path throughout life. 2). Why is car s windshield so large and the rear-view mirror so small? Because our past is not as important as our future. So, look ahead and move on. 3). Friendship is like a book. It takes a few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write. 4). All things in life are temporary. If they are going well, enjoy them, they will not last forever. If they are going wrong, don t worry, they can t last long either. 5). Old friends are gold! New friends are diamonds! If you get a diamond, don t forget the gold! To hold a diamond, you always need a base of gold. 6). Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, God smiles from above and says relax, sweetheart; it is just a bend, not the end! 7). When God solves your problems, you have faith in His abilities; when God doesn t solve your problems, He has faith in your abilities. 8). A blind person asked God: Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight? He replied: Yes, losing your vision! 9). When you pray for others, God listen to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you. 10). Worrying does not take away tomorrow s troubles; it takes away today s peace. Fr. James Narithookil, CMI Pastor TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION What is the name of the pope s cathedral? If you said the Vatican, or St. Peter s, you were off by a few miles, since the answer is the Basilica of St. John, the Lateran, the Mother Church of all the churches of the world and the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome. It takes its name from the Lateran family, the Trumps of their day, who somehow ran afoul of the Emperor Nero. He seized all their property, including their vast Roman palace and estate. We don t know how Plautius displeased Nero so badly, but eventually all the Lateran property came to Constantine, the first Christian emperor, through his wife, Fausta. Early in the fourth century, when Christianity was at last legalized, Constantine gave the property to the church. Soon the great meeting halls were expanded and adapted. Over the centuries, the church building has been sacked by armies, ruined by fire, torn down, and rebuilt. The oldest and most unchanged part of the Lateran is a vast, separate baptistery with steps leading down to a huge green basalt pool. Imagine what a triumphal moment the dedication of this public church building was for a community that had worshiped in secret for so long! This Thursday s feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica is really about the tradition of consecrating space for worship, and so by extension, a feast for your parish church building and, given the beautiful second reading, for its baptistery as well. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

If you are interested in joining us, please contact Michael Carroll at 916.451.8551 or mcarroll51@comcast.net Calling All Widows! Our October 13 meeting began with the celebration of Mass at 10 AM. Father Sijo brought with him a beautiful red rose that he used during his homily to illustrate the different stages of our life. The tiny red bud in the center symbolizes the beginning of life; the center petals are the growing up years of school, marriage and family; and the outside petals are the final stage of our life when we are called upon to be a light to our children and grandchildren. This final stage of our life is a time to celebrate and rejoice as women of wisdom and grace. Father's homily was so very inspiring! Many thanks to all of our members who brought delicious salads and desserts, especially Mary Vogeli who sent her delicious pasta salad even though she was sick and unable to attend. Please do not forget our November 10th meeting beginning with Mass at 10 AM, followed by the sounds of "Bingo", and "Thank you" for all of our blessings. If you would like to join our Widows Group, please call Gloria Gabrielli at: 916-455-9946, or Celeste Gisla at: 916-308- 0804.
