Main St. Prattsburgh Confession 7:30am Sun. 8:00am Sunday Consider this situation. Imagine you are the chairman/woman of the board of a large company and you are with the other board members to make decisions as to how you are going to budget your available funds for the upcoming year. You call the meeting to order and ask the treasurer, How large is our budget for the coming year? To the surprise and horror of everyone present the treasurer answers, I don t know. How can you possibly make plans for the coming year? How can you determine where your money will best serve you? How can you run your company? You can t, but what does it matter, it was only a bit of daydreaming anyway, right? This also applies to running our parish. As parishioners during this past year have been invited to make a tithe of time and talent, the Stewardship Committee along with the Finance Council of the parish are asking that you make a tithe of treasure. A letter is in the process of being sent to all registered families asking that they make a non-binding pledge to the parish for the coming year. A dependable income is necessary to pay for light, heat and salaries. You should pledge because the services of your parish are always available to you, your family and the members of our communities. I encourage parishioners to sign up for electronic giving where you can determine the amount and when you donate. It is taken out of your checking account or credit card and becomes a more dependable source of income for the parish. The amount can be changed or ended at any time. Go to the ad on the bulletin under DONATE ONLINE or ourladyofthelakescc.weshareonline.org. Find your worship site and follow the directions. You can print out a form to place in the collection basket each week the basket. We encourage you to cancel your donation envelopes so we can lower our printing costs. You can also connect with the WeShare site by just clicking on the DO- NATE button which appears on every page of the Our Lady of the Lakes website by going to www.ourladyofthelakescc.org. I again invite you to consider tithing: to give a percentage of your income as the first fruits to God and not simply what is left over. Parishes who have devoted themselves to stewardship tithing have done away with second collections because the generosity of their parishioners makes it possible to cover their needs and the needs of the diocese and the larger Church. This week if we understand the true spirit of Thanksgiving, then we are well on our way to an understanding of Christian stewardship. For if we honestly reflect on our lives on Thanksgiving Day we will recognize one of stewardship s most basic truths everything we have is a gift from God. We owe everything in our lives to God, including our treasure, our talents and our time. Fr. Leo

Recognizing that we are made up of diverse rural communities, we strive to live as members of the one Body of Christ, ministering to each other, and working together to nurture our God given talents in order to reach out to others in a caring and compassionate manner that witnesses to our fervent love for God. Word of Life Reading I: Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31 Her value is far beyond pearls. Reading II: 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-6 For that day will overtake you like a thief. Gospel: Matthew 25:14-30 Well done, my good and faithful servant. In today s Gospel, Jesus delivers the parable of the talents; using the example of money rather than abilities or skills. It s a story about investments, risks and returns. Stewards understand that God has given them an abundance of spiritual gifts. They know God doesn t want them to simply receive these blessings and bury them in fear, but to multiply them; to use these gifts to serve Him and others; to spread Christ s Good News; to go and make disciples of others. Good stewards invest what God has given them in the service of others and are prepared to render an account when the Lord returns. Adults: What talents or gifts do you think God has given you? Children: What makes you different and special? Looking Ahead Reading I: Ezekiel 34: 11-12, 15-17 The sheep and the Shepherd are held accountable to judgment by God. Reading II: 1 Corinthians 15: 20-26, 28 So that God may be all in all. Gospel: Matthew 25: 31-46 Those who reach out to the vulnerable will be led into the kingdom of heaven. In the Gospel reading, Jesus speaks of himself as the eschatological shepherd, assigned by God at the end of time to judge all people and to lead his sheep into the kingdom of heaven. Like Ezekiel, Jesus makes it clear that those who reach out to the most vulnerable in society (the hungry, the naked, the sick, and the prisoner) will be the sheep on his right who are led into the kingdom of heaven. At Home with the Word If you have used At Home with the Word in the past, you know how much it can deepen your appreciation of the Sunday readings, and your experience of the Sunday Eucharist. The Sunday readings at home are a tremendous way to become more familiar with the Bible, and to make God s Word a guide and vital part of your life. Pick up a copy, begin using it this Advent, and before Lent. See what At Home with the Word can mean for you! (If you can a $5 dollar contribution to offset the cost is appreciated.) The OLOL Parish Offices will be Closed November 23rd & 24th for Thanksgiving Page 3 of 6 Evangelization Facilities & Maintenance In trying to maintain and fund major projects for all the Our Lady of the Lakes facilities, this fund was created to take care of the normal daily, monthly and yearly maintenance. It will also help in the unforeseen issues that may arise as our buildings continue to age. Most important are the capital projects that may be planned in the future. Please be generous when we take up this collection THIS weekend, November 18th & 19th. Eucharist Minister Training There will be a final Eucharist Minister training at St. Michael's Church in the Hall, Monday November 20 at 6pm for those in OLOL who were unable to make the previous training. Fr. Felician will conduct the program which will last 50 minutes. No need to register just show up. OLOL Pastoral Council The OLOL Pastoral Council will be meeting Monday, November 20th, at 7PM down in St. Michael s Church Hall. Singing Christmas Eve at St. Michael s Join the choir on Christmas Eve at St. Michael's. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays, 6:30-8pm, until December 19th in St. Michael s Church. The choir sings Christmas Carols & Anthems prior to Mass, and leads singing during the Liturgy. Interested contact Rose Jensen at rajsings2u@aol.com. Don t Forget to Thank God on Thanksgiving This coming week we will celebrate our Thanksgiving holiday. The Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving to give thanks for their arrival in America and the first harvest. What do you have to be thankful for this year? How has God blessed you this year? Did you know that the word Eucharist comes from a Greek word means thanksgiving? We invite you to bring part of your Thanksgiving meal for a special blessing on Thanksgiving. We are offering TWO Masses on Thursday, November 23rd as follows: 8am at St. Mike s, Penn Yan; 9am at St. Patrick s, Prattsburgh. There will be NO MASSES on Friday, November 24th. CMA 2017 2018 We have collected $23,595 as of November 8th towards our goal of $59,788 (39.46%). We sincerely thank everyone who has contributed. Every dollar is important to fulfill the mission Christ has given us. One person does not do it alone. We will meet our goal by working together. Each family that has given will receive a thank you card within one month of your donation. If you do not please let us know to ensure your contribution is properly recorded. Your contributions are greatly appreciated. Remember, the CMA funds are used to help in many different areas including Catholic Charities, information technology support (computers, etc.) and support for staff and our Religious Education Programs.

Peace & Justice From Your Heart to Theirs.. Warm Hands warm hearts...warm feet... Baskets/boxes are near the doors of your worship site for collection of gloves mittens hats scarves and socks for our homeless brothers and sisters. New or gently used are most welcomed! We just learned dry socks are the most requested item in homeless shelters! Can you check your sock drawer and donate a pair or two? Empty coffee cans are also needed for personal hygiene kits. This warm hands/ heart/ feet collection will run until THIS Sunday, November 19th. Pancake Day at St. Michael s On December 1st Yates County Habitat for Humanity will once again host Pancake Day as part of the Star Shine celebrations. The all-you-can-eat meal will be held in St Michael s Church Hall from 11am 1:30pm and 4:30 7pm. This year s Pancake Day will be dedicated in memory of Michael Linehan, Yates County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, who passed away in February. Proceeds from this event will be used to build affordable housing for people in Yates County. A Prayer for Immigrant Children Loving Father, in your infinite compassion, we seek your divine protection for refugee children who are often alone and afraid. Provide solace to those who have been witnesses to violence and destruction, who have lost parents, family, friends, home, and all they cherish due to war or persecution. Comfort them in their sorrow, and bring help in their time of need. Show mercy to unaccompanied migrant children, too, Lord. Reunite them with their families and loved ones. Guide those children who are strangers in a foreign land to a place of peace and safety. Comfort them in their sorrow, and bring help in their time of need. Show us how we might reach out to these precious and vulnerable children. Open our hearts to migrant and refugee children in need, so that we might see in them your own migrant Son. Give us courage to stand up in their defense against those who would do them harm. For this we pray through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen Page 4 Our Gifts Keeping God in Thanksgiving Every December, we hear much talk of keeping Christ in Christmas. But sometimes in the national discussion of Thanksgiving in the United States, we talk about being thankful but leave out God as the source of all. Good stewards never miss an opportunity to thank God. Here are some suggestions for keeping God in Thanksgiving. * Many parishes see as many people attend Mass on Thanksgiving Day as on holy days of obligation. Make sure you re in the crowd, and bring your kids to say thank you to God on this special day. * Food banks and shelters need food all year long, but many launch special drives on Thanksgiving. Fill up your trunk with donations, and make clear you are acting out of a spirit of gratitude to God. * Line up a trip to help at a soup kitchen, food bank or meal delivery ser- vice on Thanksgiving or sometime near the feast. This can be especially beneficial to children, but everyone who experiences the needs of others appreciates not only what they have, but the fellowship they share with their sisters and brothers who may have less. * Make grace at your family feast especially memorable. Let people know ahead of time that they will be asked to name a person, a situation, an experience, for which they are grateful to a loving God. * Make that phrase, thank God, a little more frequent and sincere in your conversation. Don t be afraid to use the language of a grateful steward. * Set time aside this month to pray over some experience in your life that was difficult for you. Let God show you his presence in this moment and feel your heart respond with gratitude. * Set aside another time in which you recall an experience of deep happiness and joy the birth of a child, a special moment with a loved one, a gift you received that was beyond your expectation. Let God be with you in these moments and express your deep thankfulness.
