We extend a warm welcome to everyone here today, especially our guests. We pray that the message you hear today would be a blessing for you. Please sign the Friendship Register and be sure to include whatever information might help us serve you better! If this is your first time with us Please be advised that the congregation stands for the last verse of each hymn we sing. Large print hymnals are available in the narthex. Please ask an usher for assistance. Hearing assistance is provided by telecoil. Switch your hearing aid to the T setting. If you need to quiet your child during the service, please make use of the parents room attached to the narthex, the extended narthex and school hall, or the church basement. If you have questions or need assistance with anything, please ask an usher. Understand that our offerings are part of how we at Martin Luther Church and School express our thankfulness to God and return part of the blessings he has given us. When we celebrate Lord s Supper we do so as a unified body of believers having one confession and practice of Christian faith (1 Cor. 10:17). All visitors who wish to join us in receiving the Lord s Supper are asked to talk to a pastor before the service begins. FAMILY BIBLE HOUR There will be no Sunday class this week due to the voters meeting. If you would like to submit information about a family member (also a Martin Luther member) who served but whom the Lord has since called home to heaven that would also be appreciated. Please supply as much of the requested information below as you can and return (or send by email) to the church office. You may also email our congregation s liaison to the Lutheran Military Support Group, Roger Grosnick, at rgrosnick@gmail.com. Please supply: name; branch of service; highest rank achieved; dates of service; where you served. If there is further information or a military life experience that you would care to share, that is also welcome. HELP NEEDED We need more help for the monthly group cleaning of our worship area. On the second Monday of each month at 9:00 a.m., a handful of dedicated members come to do a more thorough cleaning of our worship area than is scheduled weekly. They do so willingly and in service to their Lord. Many in this small group are also on our counting teams. That means that the months they are counting there are even fewer people available to clean. We need your help! If you can dust, vacuum, push a broom or a dust mop, then you are qualified to help. Please come on September 11, October 9, November 13, or December 11 and share an hour of your time to keep our worship area inviting to all those who come to worship. A big thank you to those who have been helping on a weekly basis. Your time and effort is so appreciated. RESERVE TICKETS FOR DISTRICT REFORMATION SERVICE The Northern Wisconsin District is holding a special service to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton. Free tickets are required; please visit nwd-wels.org online, or contact the Martin Luther office for help in obtaining tickets. THE NEW LUTHER MOVIE Return to Grace will be shown in town at the Oshkosh Marcus movie theater on Monday, October 16. You can order tickets at $10.00 per ticket from tugg.com or by paying $10.00 to the church office and we will order you a ticket. A version of the movie

will be aired on PBS on Tuesday, September 12, at 7:00 PM entitled Marin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World. The PBS film will be different from the version shown in town on Oct. 16. SAVE THE DATE It might seem like a long way off, but now that summer is almost over we want to share with you the date, Saturday, December 2, for this year s Live Nativity. More info will follow in the September newsletter. Sign-up sheets for all areas that will need help are on display in the Extended Narthex. Please look them over and think about how you would like to participate. Remember we can t do this without your help and support, so thanks in advance. SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS SEPTEMBER 10 Attention parents of children 4 years old through Grade 8: Sunday School begins for the new school year on Sunday, September 10. Following second service we will order pizza and play human foosball as well as just get to know each other. The afternoon events will wrap up at 1:30 p.m. Please let Mrs. Jenny Smith know if you re planning to come for the afternoon so we don t run out of pizza. A wood-carved animal figurine. A chiseled stone statue. A golden goddess. Do you have an idol worship area set up in your home? We would say Definitely not! I don t bow down to idols! But sometimes we do worship idols and make them our gods, not even realizing they are there. Our upcoming study will bring to light these idols that hide themselves so easily in our homes and hearts, and through God s guidance and power we ll get help to avoid worshiping these false gods. Join us in the school commons room at 9:15 a.m. beginning Sunday, September 10!
