Congratulations to those newly ordained to the transitional diaconate! Congratulations to them both! Please keep them in your prayers as they complete their last year of their journey to priesthood. If you have not already done so you, you can still join the 300 Club. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK HOW WE REACHED THIS POINT! This weekend, longer a family value. When you throw in the clergy scandals, the lack of community support for an interest in the every parish in our Diocese (and many others) are focusing on our severe vocation shortage. We are sharing priests, priesthood and the current clergy s ever-increasing workload and uncertain future, the current dilemma should be closing churches and nervously looking at graying and dying priests who are not being replaced. How did we get no surprise. Where do we go from here? The quick fix here? There are many causes and even more theories. would be married priests or ordained women. But that Here are a few: There was a clergy surplus in the 60 s. would bring its own issues. Another would be hiring parish Many young men came back from war and entered the administrators, letting priests focus on ministry. But few seminary. Bishops had plenty of priests and opened many parishes could afford the additional costs. We won t solve new parishes to cater to immigrant groups. In big cities, the shortage overnight, but there are several steps we can there was a church around every corner! Yet second & take (beyond prayer): Make faith development a family third generation Catholics drifted from their ethnic churches value once again (Mass attendance, adult, youth and child to the English-speaking parishes and the ethnic churches instruction, home prayer, parish involvement). Redefine ended up with empty pews and empty pulpits. Families in the clergy job description so it is stable and not overwhelming. Create a positive atmosphere so that a the 80 s & 90 s had 1 or 2 kids (instead of their parents half -dozen or more) and they wanted grandchildren. Not much young man expressing an interest in the clerical life is encouraged and provided the incentive to send a son to the seminary... Also, the large number of nuns & priests meant less involvement by the means to pursue his vocation. If we do nothing, things will only get worse! laity in sharing the faith. Since Holy Trinity is a regional school, they are looking for more diversity within the board and are hoping to pick up new members from the Lakes Region Deanery parishes. If you would like to be nominated to the Advisory Board, please send a letter stating your interest, along with a resume to: Principal Mary Jane Cooney, 50 Church Street, Laconia, NH 03246 or email to: mcooney@htsnh.org. This might be a great way for a retired educator to give back to the church and the community! What s Happening at St. Gabriel s New tractor: our 20-year old tractor needs to go. Its replacement should be here this week. The 4-year loan on the new machine will be paid from cemetery receipts. Tilton Rectory: last winter, the furnace failed and the roof leaked. We had water damage everywhere! The roof is currently being replaced. After we ve finished the repairs, we ll have to see how we can best utilize this building. Religious Ed. Program: The Charter School is growing and needs more classrooms. Our religion program is changing and will also need more space. We are therefore moving it to the Boutin Center. This will make better use of both buildings. Youth Program: we have hired Karen Ober to help us establish a ministry for our children and young adults. With Confirmation being moved to Grade three, we will need more than classroom instruction to provide adequate faith formation for our youth. We hope to have something underway by September.
