Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation. Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see-- kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together. Christ is the head of the church, which is his body. He is the first of all who will rise from the dead, so he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and by him God reconciled everything to himself. Colossians 1:15-20 Happy 4 th of July! This is a great day of celebration of our Country s freedom and accomplishments. It is a time to reflect on those who gave their lives up so that we were free to celebrate. But it is also a time where we, the believers in Christ, remember that although we are blessed to be living as citizens in the United States of America, we are first and foremost citizens of God s Kingdom. And dual citizenship in these two kingdoms don t always agree. I am a proud American daughter whose daddy served in WWII. I am a proud American Mom and step Mom who has had three sons serve in the military of this great country. One of our sons continues to do so. I am a proud American who thanks God daily for the blessings of being able to live in this place where I can worship freely without persecution as is found in other countries. I consider myself patriotic. But I consider myself first and foremost a devoted Christian and strive to not confuse the two. Many consider being American as being Christian. This is no longer the case. We, as believers, need to be prepared when we need to make choices as to whether we will base our choices on being citizens of the U.S. or citizens of the Kingdom of God. When the decision is difficult, and you are torn between which choice to make, consider the passage above found in Colossians and then think over the history of the world. The great nations that ruled -- Rome, Greece, Egypt, England how powerful and great are they now? Do not be fooled. What we are blessed with now is no guarantee of being forever. And if the tides turn and rebellion against God becomes the sign of the times, which citizenship will you acknowledge USA or KoG? WEDNESDAY NIGHTS SUMMER SCHEDULE Worship at 6:30 followed by Doing Life Together groups at 7:00 pm Come on out and center on Jesus. No Worship or DLTs on July 4 th. Please join us for the BBQ (5:30) and Patriotic Concert (6:30). Please purchase tickets for BBQ in advance they are available in the church office. Fellowship Hall Building We would like to spruce up the Fellowship Hall over the next few months to allow us to make use of it and for other groups to use that area for meetings. We would appreciate any monetary contributions to purchase paint, painting supplies, floor stripper and wax for the floors. As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord our God. (Joshua 24:15c) This may make us unpopular at times, but then that is what Jesus warned us about. Yet, we know that when all is said and done, the only country to belong to is God s Country. The only the Kingdom that lasts is His Kingdom. The only way to be truly happy (not just pursuing it) is being an obedient citizen of the Kingdom of God. Happy Birthday America! May God continue to pour His blessings upon you. Thank you for the gift of being able to live here. Grant that I and my family may remain ever faithful to you first and then to this wonderful United States of America. We will worship you all the days of our lives no matter what kingdom we live for all kingdoms belong to you! Still worshipping the Alpha & Omega, Pastor Shirley
