1 Harvest Dinner... 1 October 2011 Blessing of the Animals/ Hunger Walk/ Altar Guild Luncheon/ Regional Meeting... 2 Our Children s Creative Conceptions.. 3 Stewardship: TranScript Focus on Finances Helping us achieve our mission On Activity Sunday, one of the fun things we could do was go onto and discover how we ranked in the world according to our income. I took time to enter my salary and discovered to my shock that I am in the.38% of the richest people in the world. That was an amazing discovery. And yet, like all of you, I have a mortgage to pay, car payments to render, bills to take care of, children and grandchildren to whom I am responsible, and my pledge to Transfiguration (which is always the first check I write each month). Soon we will come to our Harvest Dinner scheduled for October 30 following our single 9:30 AM worship service. Vestryperson Otto Lewis will be giving the Stewardship Presentation, I will be in the kitchen, and the young people will be helping serve. Please put this event on your calendar and plan to be with us for this important event. As you know, each year the vestry takes the gifts that are given by each of us during our stewardship campaign and creates a budget out of those gifts that helps us to meet our mission goals that we set each year at our annual meeting. We are the church. It takes all of us. With your gifts we pay our bills, pay our staff, and do the work God has given us to do. So plan to be with our church family as we begin this stewardship season. Many blessings, Meg+ MARKET WATCH We have all been watching the market on tender hooks these past few months. Transfiguration did pull the greater portion of our investments from the market and put them into a money market account to safeguard our funds from the current ups and downs of the market. The vestry has decided to keep that money in the money market for the time being until things get more stable. Hopefully, soon we can invest again and watch that investment grow for future ministry.

7 Thank you to Steve Van Albert for willingly doing some of the much needed handiwork in the bathrooms, the nursery, and the community building. And thanks for him and Rosamond Daniels taking charge of cleaning up the community building following the Potluck on the day of our Ministry Retreat. Thanks to Charlene and Margaret Blaine, Bill Freeman, Dianne Atkins, Nate and Tim Porter, and to all the others who helped People to People set up and take down for Ministry Retreat Sunday s Potluck and for the repast for Norma Sabonis. Thanks to Ladi Gray-Coker and J.J. Boulin for getting the stove back in order. Thanks to Elton and the choir for starting off our worship so wonderfully this year, and for helping us celebrate the life of Norma Sabonis. Thank you to Dave Stoddard for running a cable thru a very difficult ceiling to our new copier. We also want to give a shout out to Ruth Moore who is taking EFM (Education for Ministry) at Good Shepherd this year. We also want to give a shout out to all of our wonderful young people who are back in school, taking on all sorts of activities, finding their way to Sunday school and youth group, and being the fine people we know them to be. A shout out to the Campbell family who welcomed another new daughter in law into their family. Congratulations to Jason on his marriage. A shout out to Christine Kasule and her idea about a mother s union. A shout out to Pam Dunn who introduced us to her uncle, The Rev. Vernon Scott who celebrated the Eucharist for us 9/18. And finally, a shout out to Toni Tompson, Cheryl Church, Rondesia Jarrett, and all the teachers and youth leaders teaching our kids. You are great. THANKS FOR GREAT GET TOGETHERS: A Social Affair Thanks to Lois and Easton Manderson And to Grace and Timmy Coward For hosting A Social Affair. It was wonderful. Dear Transfiguration Friends, The Harvest Gifts Dinner is set for October 30, 2011, following a single 9:30AM service. You are asked to complete your pledge cards at the dinner and return them prior to leaving. Remember when we all first came to Transfiguration, we were looking for a church home with a supportive community of faith and comfort. Whatever your reason for joining this community, you have now become an integral part of it. This community needs your help now more than ever, be it time, talent or treasure (financial support). Your stewardship is important. It's the firm foundation for our dreams, our hopes and our visions. Your stewardship is greatly appreciated. You are asking yourselves, what is good stewardship? The true steward is a person using every talent and repeatedly sacrificing desires to do the right thing. When it comes to money, using it and spending it wisely, in a way that would honor the Lord is the best course of action to become a responsible Christian. See you there, Otto Lewis, Vestry Stewardship Chair
