JESUS LOVES LUKE 10:25-37...Then Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise. Luke 10:37 Copyright a Calvary Curriculum & Matt Baker
LUKE 10:25-37 UNDERSTANDING THE STORY: The Bible says that we are to love God with all of our heart, soul, strength, and mind, and that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus told a story about loving our neighbor as much as we love ourselves. In the story, who attacked the man that was traveling to Jericho? How did they treat the man? The man was hurt badly and needed help. A priest walked down the road (a priest worked in the temple and was supposed to love God). Did the priest see the hurt man? What did the priest do? A Levite also came, walked over to the man and looked at him. What did he do? Both the priest and the Levite saw the hurt man. Did either of them help the man? A Samaritan man also came and saw the hurt man. What did the Samaritan man have in his heart for the hurt man? (Compassion: he felt sorry and sad for the hurt man and wanted to help him.) The Samaritan man saw the hurt man and had compassion on him. What made the Samaritan man different from the priest and the Levite? (They all saw the same thing, but only one of them did something to help!) What did the Samaritan man do to help the man who had been hurt? How did he show that he really cared about the hurt man? Jesus told this story to teach us how to love people. Who in this story was a neighbor to the hurt man? Did the Samaritan man show real love to the man who was hurt? Was the Samaritan man thinking about himself? Did he hurry past the hurt man? Did he use what he had to help the hurt man? SIMPLE TRUTHS: Jesus wants us to love God and to love people. If we say that we love God, how can we show that we really do love Him? Does God ever let us see people who need help? Could God want us to help them in some way? If a person is hurt, how can we help them? If they are sad, how can we help them? Do we always have to have money to help people? (No.) What are some ways we can help people? (Being kind, patient, caring, and thinking about them instead of thinking about ourselves, etc. 1 John 4:11) After Jesus told the story of the Samaritan who showed love to the hurt man, He said, Go and do the same. Jesus wants us to love people, because He loves people! Sadly, some people don t know how very much God loves them. Let s ask Jesus to help us love the people around us the same way that He loves them. Let s also thank Jesus for loving us. Remember, He loved us so much that He died for us and came alive again, so that we could be with Him in heaven forever and ever! Isn t He so good to us? Who wants to pray now and thank Jesus for loving us so much that He died on the cross for our sins? AND REMEMBER... Jesus wants us to love people as much as we love ourselves!
