June 24, 2018 Fifth Sunday after Pentecost GATHERING OPENING VOLUNTARY Sonata in F Minor Op. 2. No.1, I. Allegro Ludwig van Beethoven GREETING AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP May the God of all grace and compassion be present among us as we worship this day. Listening for the voice of God, may we also hear the cries of our brothers and sisters in need. Seeking God s healing love in our lives, May we also feel the pain of those whose hurts are uncared for. God, be with in our worship

Lest in shutting the doors of this sanctuary we also shut the doors of our hearts. Lest we believe that in closing our eyes to pray, we can close our eyes to to a world in need. God be with us. PROCESSIONAL HYMN 519 vs 1-2 Lift Every Voice and Sing LIFT EVERY VOICE PASSING OF THE PEACE OF CHRIST PROCESSIONAL HYMN 519 vs 3 Lift Every Voice and Sing LIFT EVERY VOICE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in Almighty God, who guided the people in exile and in exodus, the God of Joseph in Egypt and Daniel in Babylon, the God of foreigners and immigrants. I believe in Jesus Christ, a displaced Galilean, who was born away from his people and his home, who fled his country with his parents when his life was in danger, and returning to his own country suffered the oppression of the tyrant Pontius Pilate, the servant of a foreign power, who then was persecuted, beaten, and finally tortured, accused and condemned to death unjustly. But on the third day, this scorned Jesus rose from the dead, not as a foreigner but to offer us citizenship in heaven. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the eternal immigrant from God s kingdom among us, who speaks all languages, lives in all countries, and reunites all races. I believe that the church is the secure home for the foreigner and for all believers who constitute it, who speak the same language and have the same purpose.

I believe in forgiveness, which makes us all equal, and in reconciliation, which identifies us more than race, language or nationality. I believe that in the Resurrection God will unite us as one people in which all are distinct and all are alike at the same time. Beyond this word, I believe in Life Eternal in which no one will be an immigrant but all will be citizens of God s kingdom, which will never end. Amen. DOXOLOGY 94 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia PRAYER OF DEDICATION SENDING FORTH IN THE NAME OF GOD INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP As a community and individuals, we seek to be good neighbors to make Little Rock a place where children THRIVE. Through our own faith development and active engagement with our community, we will work for the core values we believe all children of God need; Trust, Health, Relationships, Imagination, Value, and Education. HYMN OF DISCIPLESHIP 377 It is Well With My Soul VILLE DU HAVRE During the singing of the hymn, individuals desiring to join the church are asked to come to the chancel so the pastors may offer membership vows and welcome you to the congregation. RESPONSE FOR NEW MEMBERS We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we welcome you in Christian love. As members together with you in the body of Christ and in this congregation of the United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness, that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

WELCOME TO FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN DOWNTOWN LITTLE ROCK. We have embraced our role in urban ministry. Our members and friends come because they are attracted to our vitality, warmth, friendliness, and energy. They stay because we travel with them on their journey. AUDIO AND VIDEO OF TODAY S SERVICE IS AVAILABLE. CD s and DVD s of today s service are available by calling the church office at 501.372.2256 or by emailing Lesley Andrews at landrews@fumclr.org. ATTENTION PARENTS. We understand worshiping with children can be an adventure, but it is an essential part of their growth in Christ. If your child is staying in worship, please see an usher if you would like a worship bag. However, if you desire a nursery, one is available on the second floor outside the Sanctuary. If you need assistance, please see an usher or a member of the Hospitality Team.
