Holy Cross Catholic Church, St. Petersburg, FL September 3, 2017 Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time We are Here to Serve You Father Emery N. Longanga Parochial Administrator Father Carlos J. Rojas Parochial Vicar Robin V. Riley Secretary/Bookkeeper Joseph Havelka Faith Formation Coordinator Merlita Jones Hospitality Ministry Norberto Vidro Hispanic Ministry Joseph DeCresie Maintenance Shirley Schuler Housekeeper School Supplies Needed Our Holy Cross Faith Formation is in need of school supplies for the coming year. The school supplies help to limit the cost of the program and provide the needed supplies to our catechists. In the past, the parish has been very generous and there has been no need to purchase any school supplies. We cannot thank you enough for the blessing you all are for our Faith Formation Program. Please leave school supplies in the Small Hall during the weekend or in the parish office during the week. Thank you for your generous support to our program. Catechists Needed Holy Cross Faith Formation is looking for catechists and classroom assistants to serve for the coming year. This is a great opportunity to serve our faith community and especially the children of Holy Cross Parish. The parish needs your help to build a strong Faith Formation Program that focuses on the needs of our children and seeks to pass on our faith in a tradition of love and holiness. If you are interested in helping to build the faith community at Holy Cross and share your faith with the next generation of Catholics, please contact the parish office during the week or email our Faith Formation Coordinator Joseph Havelka at jhavelka11@gmail.com. Catechist Meeting There will be a meeting for all those interested in being a part of the Faith Formation team on Wednesday, August 30th at 7:00pm. This meeting is not only for catechists but anyone that would like to join the team. Contact Joseph for more details. Registration Registration for all children of the parish to take part in our Faith Formation program starting August 27th after the 10am and 12:30pm Masses. All families, not just those with children needing sacraments, are strongly encouraged to register for the program which will prepare them for a life of faith. Dear Friends, From the Pastor s Desk: Welcome to your Holy Cross Family! I want to wish you a Happy and Blessed Labor Day weekend. We are mindful of all who sacrifice their time and energy to better life in our families, our country and throughout the world. As we pray for blessing and safety of all who labor to make this world the foretaste of the Kingdom of God we long for, we pray also for the jobless and all who still struggle to find a job able to foster respect for human dignity. In a few days, I will take on my pilgrimage journey to Fatima. It is a blessed opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the apparition of the Blessed Mother to the three children and to foster my own spiritual love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As I go on that journey, I am carrying with me the intentions of our parish family in order to lay them at the feet of the Blessed Mother. I will be praying for all of you here at Holy Cross; for the success of our ministry and for our novena as spiritual preparation for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, our parish Feast Day. While I will be away and will miss the celebration, I assure you of my spiritual communion and prayers. If you have any particular or special intentions you would like me to pray for, please feel free to bring them to my attention and I will take them and offer them to Our Lady on your behalf. And let us continue to pray for one another, and for our Parish Family. Fr. Emery Longanga, PhD Parochial Administrator SATURDAY MORNING MASS IS BACK!!!!! Our Saturday morning mass will resume on 9/9, the second weekend of September. Please join in worship and the celebration of the source of our love and salvation. All are welcome!!!!! Tuesday September 5 7:00 pm Mass Honor our Law Enforcement, Firefighters and EMS Personnel at our Annual Blue Mass The Blue Mass dates back to 1934 in Washington D.C. The Blue Mass is a tradition in the Northeast United States and has now extended throughout the U.S., particularly in the wake of September 11, 2001. This Mass is a way to honor and recognize the sacrifice of Police and First Responders as well as blessing those who proudly serve their community. Families are also honored for their sacrifices. All are invited for light refreshments immediately following Mass in the Parish Hall.
