We will be working on the parish calendar for July 1, 2018 June 30, 2019. If your ministry or organization has not already turned in your requested dates to the office please do so as soon as possible so we can have a rough draft of the calendar available for this meeting. Please include in your requests the weekends you wish to be in the Gathering Area during the year as we will be limiting the number of fund raisers on a given weekend. FAMILY PROMISE THANK YOU! Two homeless families found their burdens a little lighter during Family Promise Host Week May 20 27. Thanks to 23 cooks and meal hosts, 8 home-cooked meals like fried chicken and ham (including 18 side dishes and 8 desserts!) made them feel at home. At least 30 volunteers made sure there were all the fixins for lunches and breakfasts. 27 adults and youth provided evening activities, including kickball games, messy science experiments, a kid car wash, and lots of board games. 14 overnight volunteers made sure the families and kids were comfortable and got a good nights sleep. And 10 other volunteers set up the bedrooms, packed everything away, and did laundry. All in all, about 100 volunteers gave 298 hours of their time! Good news is on the way for these two grateful families. One should be in their own housing early June, when a new baby will also be welcomed into their home; and the second family s new jobs will help them make their way into their own place very soon. Would you like to be part of this good news? We host again the week of July 22 and would love you to join us! Pray for the Sick: David Blackburn, Herb & Betty Kuepfer, Jose' Magiste, Sandy Vasbinder, Leon Denomme, Pam Jenkins, Jim Hempfling, David Myers, Kathy Borowy, Shirley Livchak, Dave Kleinhenz, Jerry Severns, Carol Cordy, Nancy Johnson, Tami Lynsky, Jeanne Kowalski, Dorothy Pondy, Bille Updegrove, Debbie Hutnyak, Robert Falatic, Al Machovina, Anna Gibbons, Marie Holt, Brooke Hokes, Mary England, Brian Jaram, Tony Ferritto, Ava Marie Tyler, Grace Smith, Zelma Epp, Bill Livingston and Arthur Abernathy. Please call the Parish Office 440-926-2364, or email us at info@olqpgrafton,org to have a name of a friend or relative included in this list.
Corpus Christi Page 3 Pastor s Corner: It was decided a few years back by the Parish Council to recognize the faith life of our youth and to promote their growth in the faith as they head off to college. A scholarship fund was established as a way to encourage our youth to continue to not only practice their faith but to grow in it as they move into the next stage of their lives. The scholarship application asks two questions: How has the parish influenced your life and how have you contributed to the parish community? How do you plan to further strengthen and develop your spirituality and how will you put your faith into action into the future? The Scholarship Committee this year consisted of Jon Axe, Vicky Simkovich and Terri Zunis. Due to the generosity of parishioners with our annual collection for the Scholarship Fund they were able to give three scholarships to graduating High School students and one to a current college student of $500 each. The High School recipients are: Erin Nolan, Holly Stutz and Cheyenne Young. The college recipient is Domenic DiVencenzo. Once again it is good to see that the ministries of Helping Hands and Family Promise have had a significant impact on their lives. Congratulations to our scholarship recipients and please keep in your prayers all of our young people as they head off into the work force, military and college. A new ministry had started up last year to connect college students with the parish and has had great results. Please watch for more information on how you can get involved in keeping our youth connected to the parish. Fr. John WOMEN OF FAITH: Women of all ages are welcome to come together and grow spiritually in community. We will gather on Monday, June 4th at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. We will view and discuss two films titled, "How does God guide us?" and "Who is the Holy Spirit?" If you have any questions, please contact Grace Ogonek at: gogonek@olqpgrafton.org ORDINARY TIME: After our full participation in the forty days of Lent, the Triduum, and the fifty days of Easter, we now return to counting or numbering the weeks, not the days, of the liturgical year. Ordinary Time, which will take us through the summer and fall, comprises the thirty or so weeks that are not marked by major feasts. The longest stretch of Ordinary Time begins after Evening Prayer on the Solemnity of Pentecost and continues up to the start of the new liturgical year on the First Sunday of Advent. The seasons of the Church reflect the rhythms of our lives, with peak moments and times of quiet growth. The liturgical color of Ordinary Time, green, reminds us that this is still a season of growth in our discipleship, a time to continue maturing into the followers of Jesus Christ we are meant to be. Sourcebook 2018, Liturgy Training Publications, p. 208. SCRIPTURE STUDY: Our study of PSALMS II (Psalms of Declarative Praise) will continue on Thursday June 21 st at 7:00pm in Room 2 of the Hall, with chapter Seven pgs. 142-159 in the study book and lesson Five (5) in the Psalms II study guide. We will be also discussing the new Scripture Study which starts in August. Psalms II study guides are still available at the study, using the same book. Please join us to raise your scriptural awareness, and contact Rick Gallaher (440) 458-6335 for comments or questions. PIVOTAL PLAYERS: We have looked at the lives of Michelangelo, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Catherine of Siena. This month we will be looking at the life of G.K. Chesterton. G.K. Chesterton shows that the fundamental disposition of effective evangelism is joy, and life in Christ is a day to day encounter with an abundant and surprising offer of grace. This 60 minute video will be shown on Saturday, June 16 th at 10am. Bishop Robert Barron and his team from Word on Fire travel to Oxford, London, Beaconsfield, and all of the locations that played a significant role in the formation and vocation of G.K. Chesterton, which in turn formed the life of the Church.
