Welcome to the Catholic Community of SAINT MARK THE EVANGELIST A Catholic Community of Caring Since 1981 Serving Londonderry, Hudson & Windham - New Hampshire Fr. Mike Zgonc Deacon Tom Lavallee Brandon Sargent Claudia Dominguez Lisa Olsen Artie Carew Richard Dussault Church and Parish Center (603) 432-8711 One South Road, Londonderry, NH 03053 Pastor Permanent Deacon Director of Evangelization Family Faith Formation Youth Minister Office Manager Music Director Custodian MASS SCHEDULE Saturday @ 5:00 PM Sunday @ 8:00 AM 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM Monday through Thursday @ 9:00 AM Welcome Home! We, as a Parish Family, are so glad you are here! As sharers of the one baptism & the one Spirit of the Risen Christ, we come together as the Parish Community of St. Mark the Evangelist to proclaim our identity as the People of God. The Eucharist is the center of our life and work together. Through the one bread, we become the one body of Christ, a living sacrifice of praise. In our worship of God, the Author of life and holiness, we proclaim our hope in the life of Christ s Resurrection; we open our hearts and minds to the Spirit of God dwelling in our midst. In our work, together, we seek to enable our children to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God; to accompany our young sons and daughters on their journeys of discovery toward adulthood; to deepen our faith commitment through prayer & study; to be present to one another in the joys and sufferings, the victories and struggles of life; to give witness to the Gospel of justice and compassion to our hurting world. We welcome to our parish family all who share our Catholic faith & traditions & our search for God in all things. -Parish Mission Statement Facebook: stmarkslondonderry Twitter: @stmarksnh Website: www.stmarksnh.org

From Your Youth Minister Deacon Tom has been excitedly wishing everyone Happy Easter! for the last seven weeks, and as we say goodbye to the Easter season and move into Ordinary Time we can at least go out saying Happy Birthday! to each other. Today, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday - the birthday of the Catholic Church - as well as First Communion for seven of our Third Graders! Continuing the theme of last week s bulletin letter, when we break open the first reading from Acts (2:1-4) we find that the first Pentecost experience itself exemplifies for us the Four Marks of the Church that we profess to believe every time we attend Mass and say the Nicene Creed. Mary and the disciples...were all in one place together. From the birth of our Church we learn that as a parish community we are called to come together as ONE in prayer and that our spiritual life is never done individually. As our Third Graders continue their initiation into the Church with the reception of the Eucharist, we must remember that we are all part of the Body of Christ, united even in our differences. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind there appeared to them tongues of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit The Church is HOLY by its very nature of being filled with the Holy Spirit. At the most fundamental level, the mission of the Church is to make people holy; i.e. bringing them into a relationship with God and love itself. At Confirmation, the Holy Spirit fills us with powerful gifts that allow us to better image that love of God to others. The Holy Spirit is not just an idea, it is a person who we have a relationship with and through sanctifying grace lives within us and the Church!... and began to speak in different tongues The disciples found that they were able to speak new languages, epitomizing the universality of the Church. CATHOLIC (with a lowercase c ) means universal and Christ exhorts the disciples to, Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit (Mt 28:19) We must be willing to go beyond our comfort zones to meet those who we consider to be other and recognize that all are welcome and part of the Body of Christ....as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim... At the first Pentecost, the disciples truly became apostles (apostolos = messenger), they were empowered by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the message of God s love expressed through Christ s sacrifice. In reality, every single one of us is called to be an apostle and a missionary; to witness Christ s love to the rest of the world in each moment of our lives. So, though we are entering ordinary time (which sounds pretty boring), in reality, we are called to enliven the everyday aspects of our faith; to be more intentional in our Christian discipleship! For starters, the next time we say the Creed at Mass, let s take a moment to step away from the rote-ness of reciting something most of us memorized in childhood, slow down, and think about the words we are saying. Imagine we are at the first Pentecost in the room with the disciples and reflect upon what it really means to us to be part of a Church that is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. Happy Birthday, all! And extra blessings on the second graders and their families! In peace and gratitude,
