Mother Teresa, who founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, came to Lafayette in July 1986 to establish a chapter of her order here in Lafayette. Mother Teresa was a longtime friend of Fr. Joseph Brennan, and during her visit she prayed at St. Genevieve Church and spoke to the people of Acadiana in a packed Cajundome on July 10, 1986. The Missionaries of Charity continue to witness to the Gospel in Acadiana with four religious sisters serving in Lafayette today. National Association of Catholic Family Life Ministries in this Centennial Year, the Diocese of Lafayette is happy to host a national Marriage and Family Conference July 15-17 at the Cajundome Convention Center. Please pray for the holiness of marriage and family and the success of this conference.
