St Bernadette Catholic Primary School Newsletter Friday 4 th May 2018 Dear Parents, I hope this newsletter finds you all well and looking forward to a Bank holiday weekend full of sunshine. You will see as you continue reading, we have had another exciting and packed two weeks at school. The children have continued to take part in various workshops in order to ensure that they are receiving an education that enriches all areas of the curriculum. Half way through this week the children recorded a CD showcasing their wonderful voices. It is set to be a best seller! I hope you all enjoy the bank holiday weekend and I look forward to seeing the children bank to school on Tuesday. Kind regards Mrs Lavelle-Murphy CAREERS DAY TUESDAY 19 TH JUNE We are looking for volunteers to come in and help us with our careers day. The day would involve you working with all different year groups, explaining what you do as a career. Last year was a real success and your children thoroughly enjoyed learning about a range of careers from gas engineering to midwifery. If you would be interested in volunteering your time or know someone who would, please contact the school office.

Upcoming Dates: 9/5/18 Year 5 Assembly 10/5/18 Mass at the church to celebrate Ascension day 10.00am 14/5/18 Year 6 SATS Week 18/5/18 Royal Wedding Tea Party 21/5/18 Isle of Wight Year 6 Trip 28/5/18 1/6/18 Half Term 4/6/18 INSET DAY 5/6/18 Sports Week Timetable to follow

THE ASCENSION If you have ever lost someone very dear to you, Have you noticed how they are still present In your memory, in your heart? It s as if when their body has gone Their spirit is still with you And you get to know them in a different way You might say you re in contact with the essence Of who they were as a person And now you get to know them almost in a deeper way Than when they were with you, Without the ups and downs, good days and bad days Of being with them in person. Of course, we still want them with us, But separation, at least in the body, is sadly part of life. When Mary Magdalen met the risen Jesus on Easter Sunday morning He said something to her, It sounded almost cold Do not cling to me, he said. Maybe the message here is that Jesus of Nazareth Could only have been with us for a short time. He had to return to the Father, as we all do, But the Good News is that we have his Spirit still with us, Which is like a bigger presence than any one human life can contain.

METRO BANK This week Metro Bank visited our year 4 class for the first out of 4 sessions. Trained financial education instructors visited the classroom with lesson plans developed to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum for mathematics and PSHE.

ST.GEORGES DAY The children at St Bernadette honoured St George s Day by attending school in their Scout, Rainbows, Brownies & Cub uniforms.

PRAYER GARDEN MAKEOVER Thank you to Mrs Raggett who began working on improving our prayer garden with the children from year 6 and reception!

YEAR 5 TRIP TO ST CASSIANS Last week, Year 5, along with, myself, Miss Doherty, Mrs Choppin & Ms Smith attended St Cassian s retreat Centre for a residential trip. The staff & children had a fab time making life long memories.

RECEPTION EASTER GARDENS Displayed at the entrance last week were the beautiful Easter Gardens prepared by our reception children. Each one an individual representation of the Easter story. Well done reception!

JUDAISM WORKSHOPS Judaism For Schools, provided lively and engaging workshops and an exciting assembly that brought Judaism and Jewish history to life!

CD RECORDING We were lucky to have an experienced recording engineer, with professional studio recording equipment to record our school CD. The children really enjoyed the day and we are looking forward to hearing the results.

MATHS PROBLEM SOLVING DAY The children worked in small groups on a variety of different activities. The activities were designed to help the children learn and reinforce mathematical language. They also provided a focus for mathematical reasoning and problem solving!
