Prayer of the Day: FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH Generous God, You give us things both spiritual and physical in abundance. Help us to hold lightly the fading things of this earth and grasp tightly the lasting things of Your kingdom, so that what we are and do and say will be pleasing to You. We ask this through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen. Ushers Greeters Gord Magel (Head Usher) Sanctuary: Yvonne Ingram Rick Roland Balcony: Eleanor Russell and Vi Maeers Diane Zimmer Elevator: William Crook Deacon on Duty: Vi Maeers AV Ministry: Hilary Ryan Service of Worship Sunday, July 31st, 2016, 10:00 a.m. *Indicates congregation is invited to stand as able* Music for Gathering WE GATHER AS GOD S PEOPLE Opportunities for Life and Service Becky Findlay *The Introit Come Away From Rush & Hurry Congregation (tune, Hymn to Joy", #1) Come away from rush and hurry to the stillness of God's peace; From our vain ambition's worry, come to Christ to find release. Come away from noise and clamour, life's demands and frenzied pace; Come to join the people gathered here to seek and find God's face. Call to Worship Invocation Welcoming One Another 1

WE APPROACH GOD Reflective Moment Sanctuary Congregation Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary, Pure and holy, tried and true; With thanksgiving, I'll be a living sanctuary for You. Confession of Sin Assurance of Pardon *Hymn of Praise The Lord is King The Lord is King! Lift up your voice, O earth and all ye heav ns, rejoice. From world to world the joy shall ring: The Lord omnipotent is King! The Lord is King! Who then shall dare Resist His will, distrust His care, Or murmur at His wise decrees, Or doubt His royal promises? The Lord is King! Child of the dust, The Judge of all the earth is just; Holy and true are all His ways; Let every creature speak His praise. One Lord, one empire, all secures; He reigns, and life and death are yours; Thru earth and heav n one song shall ring, The Lord omnipotent is King! (Children will go immediately to the lower hall during the hymn for their Sunday programme). 2

*The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Scripture Reader: WE LISTEN TO GOD Bonnie Austring-Winter Old Testament Lesson: Hosea 11: 1-11 (O.T. pg. 842) Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 107:1-9, 43 Congregation: Congregation: Congregation: O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, those He redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to an inhabited town; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress; He led them by a straight way, until they reached an inhabited town. 3

Congregation: All: *Gloria Patri #623 Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love, for His wonderful works to humankind. For He satisfies the thirsty, and the hungry He fills with good things. Let those who are wise give heed to these things, and consider the steadfast love of the Lord. Congregation Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen. Epistle Lesson: Colossians 3: 1-11 (N.T. pg. 201) *Gospel Lesson: Luke 12: 13-21 (N.T. pg. 74) This is the word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God! *Hymn of Preparation: Leaning on the Everlasting Arms #354 Sermon Greedy WE RESPOND TO GOD *Hymn of Response Lavish Love, Abundant Beauty #61 Prayers of the People John Hillmer The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. 4

Our Gifts & Offerings Becky Findlay *Response of Praise Give Thanks Congregation (Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One; Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son.) 2x (And now let the weak say "I am strong". Let the poor say, "I am rich", Because of what the Lord has done for us.) 2x *The Benediction Music for Departing Becky Findlay Morning Worship Service Attendance for July 24th 135 Preparing For Next Sunday: Scripture Lessons August 7th Old Testament Lesson Genesis 15.1-6 Responsorial Psalm Psalm 50.1-8, 22-23 New Testament Lesson Hebrews 11.1-3, 8-16 Gospel Lesson Luke 12: 32-40 Preparing for Next Sunday: Holy Communion If the Lord tarries we intend, next Sunday, to celebrate the Lord s Supper together. Along with baptism, the supper is one of the means of grace especially appointed by Jesus, intended for our great spiritual benefit. However Scripture also warns us to examine yourselves and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (1 Corinthians 11:28). Please take time during the week to confess and repent of any known sin, that you may receive the elements with joy and thanksgiving next week! 5
