Summerville Presbyterian Church 407 S. Laurel St. Summerville, SC 29483 January 14, 2018 A SERVICE FOR THE WORSHIP OF GOD Eight forty-five and Eleven fifteen o clock Services Welcome Minute for Mission Ashley Heslop Prelude Largo Edward Elgar Silent Prayers Candle Lighting Invocation *Call to Worship: Leader: Listen, friends! God is speaking! People: God's voice whispers to us in the stillness. Leader: All creation proclaims the glory of the Lord. People: It thunders across the skies. It breaks out from the heavens. Leader: Listen! God is speaking! God also speaks through the Word. People: That Word took on flesh to make God known to us. The Word is truth and life. The Word proclaims the promises and purposes of God. *Hymn #411 (blue hymnal) Arise, Your Light Has Come William H. Walter *Prayer of Confession: Merciful God, we confess that we do not know how to pray. We speak too much and listen too little. We are uncomfortable with silence and impatient in waiting. Far too often we are more concerned with listing our needs and wants than in discovering Your will for our lives. Forgive us, we pray, when we are selfish, lazy, hard of hearing or less than honest in our moments with You. By Your grace, teach us to pray so that we may come to know the heart of Jesus in fresh and living ways this day. In His name we pray. *Silent Prayer *Kyrie Eleison Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us. *Assurance of Pardon *Gloria Patri

CONNECTIONS

Stewardship Update: To date, only 187 families/individuals have responded by turning in pledge cards. These pledges total $601,024. The budget for this current year is $757,505, meaning that the budget for 2018 is in danger of being considerably less than that of 2017. If we are to grow as a church, if we are to carry out our dreams for the future of SPC, we each must do our part and pledge our financial resources to support the work that God has called us to do. SPIRITUAL GROWTH Sunday School Teachers are Needed! Feel called to teach and just need a little help getting started? Here is the job for you! We need one teacher for each of our Youth and Elementary classes. Please contact Sarah at summervillepreskids@gmail.com or by text if you are interested! MUSIC Children's Choir to begin Sunday, January 28th and continue through March 18th at 4 pm in the Choir Room. All Children 5 years to 5th grade are invited to join us as we prepare music for Worship and learn to have fun with music. Hope to see you there! NEW DATE for SPC Town Hall and Information Meeting Sunday, January 21 st 10:00 in the Gym As the Session of Summerville Presbyterian Church plans for 2018, the Elders want to share information with you about the needs of the church and to hear your thoughts and ideas on some topics under consideration. The Personnel Team will discuss current and future staff needs. The Property team will brief you on our church s most immediate infrastructure needs, predictions of future needs, and the possible costs facing us over the next several years to update, replace, and repair these areas. Lastly, the Spiritual Leadership Team will share a presentation on a church-wide strategic planning process that we d like to begin this year. This program, sponsored by the Presbyterian Foundation, has successfully assisted other churches with financial and strategic planning. It will involve all ages and all parts of our church as we think about such questions as Who are we as a church? Where are we headed and where do we want to go? How can we honor Christ and serve His people better? There will only be time for a few questions on each topic in order to respect our one-hour time limit. Information sheets will be distributed at the meeting with space to provide additional thoughts and questions you may have. You can also input your suggestions to the following e-mail address. sessionspc@gmail.com. Your comments will be considered by Session. See You There! CHILDREN Mark Your Calendars! Joy Kids new kickoff date is January 28th at 5pm in Lanneau Hall, and will be built around our children's requests for our church. Signup sheets are located on the SPC Kids bulletin board, outside the SPC Kids classroom, and in the front office. Children s Pajama Sunday will take place February 11th, during all services. Avoid one step of the morning routine and bring the kiddos in their jammies! VBS In January? Not quite, but we are already gearing up! If you have any river or rafting gear you can lend us for decoration purposes during the week of June 25-29, 2018, please contact Sarah by email or text. The items don't need to be delivered until mid-june, but decor planning is already underway. Items will not be used by children during the week. If you are not getting Children's Ministry emails and would like to be on the list, please let Sarah know!
